In short: Super, well organised race In full: Have done all the York JT races and it never disappoints, though is getting busier which made leaving the area a bit slow. Be nice to get age group result otherwise love the T-shirt and medal. My son did the 3k which he enjoyed, again would be nice to get an official time as some (including mine) of the children had club vests on. We will be back next year! Date of review: August 14, 2012

In short: A great 10k - well done The Boro! In full: My family really enjoyed the atmosphere and entertainment! Especially the music and BBC Tees - their goody bag excellent! Arrived in good time as car parks shutting at 9am, so saw Red Devils who were great, would have preferred the 10K to be done first as it was quite sunny and warm by the time we got off and there was some hanging about waiting, also this may enable the car parks and roads to open up earlier - didn't enjoy sitting in the car for an age to get away and do some shopping! Overall this was a most enjoyable run, not my best as I have a head cold - better next time ..perhaps?? Excellent goody bag - t.shirt, medal, key fob and MARS BAR!!!! Date of review: September 7, 2010

In short: Marathon In full: Won't go on to repeat many of the negative comments already posted as I experienced many. I could have cried when I finally got back to my hotel and opened my t-shirt to find I had been tossed off with a relay t-shirt! I endured 26.2 miles in that devastating heat, taking over an hour longer than I had anticipated for a left over relay t-shirt! In one fell swoop they made my mammoth effort feel worthless and wish I had never bothered! I too have done London and found the organisation outstanding. There was a distinct lack of marshalls on some very lengthy parts of the route and 3 miles between drink stations need to be shortened. I too found the trail to the shuttle buses horrendous - there was no-one helping direct people onto the buses, no-one seemed to know where they were and were arguing with the normal service bus drivers as they couldn't get on with their ticket numbers. By the time I got to them and sat on the bus I felt ill. The journey was not over - I realised they were dropping us back off at the start - sick sense of humour I thought - my hubby had thought we would be dropped at Princess Street as others were - they were the service buses - wish I'd got one as I then had another 25min walk to the hotel. Support from locals - fantastic and other fellow runners - fantastic. Edinburgh - Fantastic I will be back as a tourist - I have vowed never to return as a runner! They will never make this a world class marathon if they don't take note of the feedback which they have clearly had before. Date of review: May 25, 2010

In short: wet but great run In full: I wasn't a late entry but by the time I got to the start everyone had gone! It all got bottlenecked at the gate to go across to the start, so while everyone was at the start thinking it was delayed due to late entries I can assure you it wasn't. I had no idea how far behind the main field I was, but was relieved it was chipped otherwise my time would have been appauling! I love the run and considering the weather it all went smoothly, praise to the marshalls for standing out in it all for the duration. Will be back next year! Date of review: December 3, 2009

In short: Brilliant run, very cold but set off without hanging around In full: Loved this run, although never like those bits where you are running up one side as the faster ones are running back on the other side. But overall had a great run and great day. Very cold! Date of review: December 1, 2008

In short: Fantastic atmosphere In full: My 3rd GNR and probably the last, long day travelling, time to try some others! As it was probably the last it felt the most special, and went smoothly, got 12 mins off preivous time and 38 secs off PB so went off a happy bunny! Brilliant atmosphere, South Shields will long live on in my memory for the people and their generosity to the runners. Didn't expect to get a good time as too many bodies but managed it on this occassion. Not sure how they work out their banding as my brother-in-law and I always put in the same time, and its an official set time from previous GNR's and we always both end up in different zones which is a continual pain. Never mind went out with a bang and there is nothing like it for the red arrow displays - phenominal!! Great for first timers who are looking for the challenge of the distance. Enjoy!
