In short: Decent toast course with good atmosphere
In full: Good big city race. Start pens was a bit chaotic but race thinned out very quickly after the start line. First half of the race is along the portway which is very flat and straight so if not the most exciting part of the course does allow you to start and maintain a good pace. Second half within the city is more twisty and turns but has great atmosphere from the crowds. Good finish, well organised with medals and t-shirts. Decent medal and technical tee. Definitely recommend it if you like the big city races.

In short: Very well organised and marshalled
In full: Easy to find and park. First time for this race but you wouldn't know it with the organisation. Nice atmosphere and hats off to all the volunteers and marshalls - you all gave incredible support which was massively appreciated. T-shirt, medal and some goodies at the finish is always an added bonus. Nasty hill at 12 miles but then its not called the scorpion run for nothing!

In short: Very hilly and tough race but great scenery
In full: Good weather today helped. Very congested start at several stages in the early part - lots of stopping and single file - took a while before it opened out. Lost count of the hills an stiles i had to climb over. Certainly tough and not one for time but very enjoyable if you like running off road. Unusual pink towel when you cross the line instead of a medal - not sure how that will go down when i'm at my gym...lol

In short: Small race with a big race feel
In full: With only about 210 runners running the full marathon race this is not the race for you if you want to run in a crowd. Saying that being smaller made it feel much more personal with great support when you came across the locals and the marshals. Fantastic course with fabulous scenery giving you the chance to see the whole island. Great finish in the stadium with announcers and the crowd cheering you all the way to the finish line. Goodie bag even included a pint of local milk which i have to say is a first. Some friends watching in the stadium stated what a great atmosphere it was waiting for the runners to come in. Big thanks to all involved. Well worth the trip over.

In short: Difficult but incredibly enjoyable race
In full: Well don't even think about getting a good fast time with this course. At times in this race you could barely break out into a jog and just staying on two feet was enough of a challenge particularly just after halfway. I saw the train a few times and each time was fantastic fun and noisy. Fantastic support and brilliant marshaling made the day go really well and whizz by despite being out there running for over two hours. Great goodie bag at the finish. Now i've just got the challenge of cleaning all the mud off my trainers.....lol

In short: Brilliantly organised race - good challenge
In full: I always like this race - not sure why but i always do a decent time despite it being a two lap course with two inclines in each lap. Maybe i like it cuz of its ease of parking, good pre race facilities, fantastic marshalling, good mixed route, quality t-shirt and goodie bag.....maybe its just all these things...anyway will be back next year for sure

In short: Pleasant run through country lanes and around the lake
In full: Good local race with nice route through country lanes and around Barston Lake. Not completely traffic free but roads quiet enough and well marshalled. A few water stops which was needed with the heat today. Medal and chocolate at the finish with the option of some hot food if wanted. Nice area to wait around in for family friends with licensed bar. One minute out from my time last year

In short: If you only do one 30K this year..........make it this one.....
In full: Well i expected it to be tough going and at times it was very tough going. Lots of downhill section too though so not all uphill but when it does go uphill with the conditions underfoot most runners ended up walking - it made sense. I dont normally do long off road races so this made a real change and i have to say i really enjoyed it. Nice to run it at a much more comfortable pace. If you like running through large open fields, dodging cows, climbing walls and stiles, sliding around in mud then this is the race for you. I got to come back and do this with friends next year i reckon....its a real challenge. Nice to have some hot food for sale at the end too - i really needed that. Thanks to all involved!

In short: Scenic as completely off road within the park
In full: Parking right at the start, a good route as traffic free within the park, a lot of downhill sections and one major hill make for a great race. Only a mug at the finish
