In short: 10k - Good but a bit shambolic In full: Well organised registration at Four Seasons Hotel, with coaches laid on to take you to start point. Very chilly but once warmed up felt good. THis was chipped race but only for finishing times as there were no starter mats to get start time unlike the Hlaf Marathon. There was supposed to be a simultaneous start with the Half Marathon, but they lost contact but kept reassuring us that the half would not start until both could be started at the same time. 15 mins later they found out the Half had started - this of course meant that the timing chips were out. I think the final times are about 15s too short. Problems ensued when the 10k crossed the Half marathon route at at almost right angles. No Kilometer markers on course only mile countdowns (not acceptable for a 10k to my mind).. Course is very fast as it nearly all downhill with a 1.5% drop across 10k, definite PB potential. I got a PB but will discount it due to the timing issues. The cousre was very well marshalled and there was excellent control of the traffic on the roads hence it was very safe. Goody bag ok, could have been a bit more generous. This is an expensive event to take part in compared to most but would be well worth it if the organisers paid a little more attention to some of these minor details and gripes. I will definitely do it again and would recommend it. Date of review: October 19, 2010
In short: Good run, enjoyable In full: EK 10k for fourth year running. The course is now an exact 10k rather than the 10.2k of previous events which made the race much more worthwhile IMHO.I think they should drop the term "fun run" now that the course is exactly 10k. PB for the race (taking into account the distance differences on previous years), look forward to next year. Date of review: June 21, 2009
In short: Muddy & Narrow In full: A flat course with good PB potential IF it is not wet as the paths get very very muddy and you find yourself jumping over the large puddles. The first 2k requires a very fast start or you are running at the pace of the guy in front due to the narrow path. Todays race was more cross country than road race. All credit to Springburn Harriers for making the event so worthwhile given the muddy conditions. Date of review: January 18, 2009
In short: Fantastic Race, Scenery unparalled In full: This was my third time at the Laggan 10k. A scenic "there and back" 10k with a few challenging hills, not a PB course. This year was hot and sunny which meant the scenery was even more glorius but made the actual running a little tougher than last year. Still managed to improve my time by nearly a minute! Great after race tuck in the village hall - very friendly atmosphere.
Only critiscism is the use of mile markers in a 10k, which I find a bit odd.
This event is a absolute must in my racing calendar and I will most certainly be there next year. Date of review: June 1, 2008
In short: good run, enjoyable In full: Took part in this event for the second time. Cut 3 mins off last years 10k time, new PB! Although the last 1k did seem long. Weather good, overcast, not too warm, no rain. Goody bag excellent. It was nice to finish on the track. I enjoyed this a lot but I am very unsure of the accuracy of the race length due to the last 1k, I suspect this is why it is called a fun run. To contradict a couple of other postings there were expected time markers, but I suppose those got lost as the race was assembled. They started by announcing the race would start in 6 min, but in actual fact it was 15-20mins before it was underway. We stood quite a long time on the track. As I was late I had to reduce my warmup. Oh well, still good though. Will be back next year. Date of review: June 24, 2007
In short: Enjoyable, Friendly event In full: I enjoyed this one. PB! Weather good if a little windy. Course is fairly flat so definite PB potential on this event. A good event for beginners as there were runners with a wide range of abiities taking part, from top athletes to walkers. I do agree with the previous comments about the use of chip timing using the gun to start, it really should be individually activated as you cross the starting line. Good event all in all. I will be back next year. Date of review: June 20, 2007
In short: Great event well worth the effort. In full: I enjoyed this very much. I expected a few more competitors, but a healthy number started. Running lanes on the roads were a little narrow. Weather - although dull and overcast it was still bit too warm for me, I am glad it was not hot and sunny like London! My time was only so so. Fairly flat but there was an unexpected long incline near the start. City v City competition was novel and interesting, I suspect the flatter Glasgow course may have helped the final result! Will be back next year. Date of review: June 4, 2007
