In short: the hills could put off a beginner! Lovely scenery, nice medal and very well organised. In full: Organisers had clearly put in a lot of work and picking up numbers and chips was quick and easy. Course was well marshalled and there was a surprising amount of support around the roads for such a rural course. Shame that last nights rain turned the parking field into a mudbath. Thanks to all the runners and marshalls who kindly stayed behind to push stranded cars out of the mud. Date of review: April 14, 2013

In short: they said 'nothing tougher' In full: If only all races were this well organised. Over 3000 runners in two races and it went like clockwork. Chip timing meant it didn't matter what 'wave' you went in. Loads of loo's so virtually no queuing. Big hot tub at the end to soak away the mud and get over all those cold mud filled pits. My son did the kids race and couldn't get over being allowed to run in a river and bog! Race T-shirts in all sizes with special ladies fit ones too. Marshalls were brilliant. I'll definately be back next year. I would just add that if any first timers are thinking of doing this next time, don't wear ordinary trainers - some people could barely stay on their feet.Invest in a pair of fell or cross country shoes. Oh, and wear just shorts and vest - people in trousers and long sleeve tops were really struggling with the weight of their wet muddy clothes. Date of review: October 24, 2012

In short: I entered the 5k but ran the 10k In full: On the positive this was great fun, fantastic setting with a brilliant atmosphere. The Regiment Fitness guys were really encouraging and helpful on the obstacles. I would definately do this again. The price seems steep but theres a lot of setting up involved and it also raises funds for Help for Heroes and you all get a T-Shirt. I was in wave 2 of the 5k. All went well until we climbed the really steep hill. A marker had been removed. I was 1st lady and 3rd overall. None of us knew where to go, and some stragglers from wave 1 were also wandering around. There were paths going off in all directions. Some of us headed right and ended up down by the Flying School and onto the 10K course. By the time we got to the 'tunnel crawl' others I had overtaken ages before started to appear from a gate, they were complaining they had gone wrong too. But I guess not as far as some of us! At the log carry GPS showed I was on for about 27 minutes for the 5k, but thanks to the missing marker I was out on the course for almost an hour. Date of review: September 23, 2012

In short: Very well organised race in lovely surroundings. In full: I couldn't fault this race, its just a shame there weren't more runners. I think the entries sufferred because there were quite a few 10Ks in the Surrey/Sussex area this weekend. It was two laps of grassland and trail, very slightly undulating but nothing very taxing. Plenty of parking, the course was very well marked out and there were marshalls at every turn. Bananas for all at the finish, a nice tea room and access to the country estate for anyone who wanted to stay on. I hope the organisers persevere as this is a really nice race to do. In short: Well organised, great scenery, forget the pb In full: After starting in the square the race goes up through the grounds of the castle, winding through the walls and across a small draw bridge. The 5k climb wasn't that bad, and the view at the top made it all worth while. Three water stations en-route and plenty of support out on the hills.I was humbled by the guy dressed as the stig, overtaking me on the long climb with a heavy crash helmet on! I stopped on the way down to help a runner who was in a bad way with only 1/2 a km to go. After speaking to marshalls at the finish I was told an ambulance had gone up to help him. I hope he was ok. I really enjoyed this race and wished I had taken the family as Arundel looks a lovely place to spend the day. Date of review: August 27, 2012

In short: Bargain and well organised In full: I'll never complain about hills in races again. We started going up, and just carried on and on. The views at the triangulation point were amazing - Southdowns and blue sea with a glimpse of the Seven Sisters off in the distance. Low key, friendly, good mix of runners, nice refreshments and what a bargain price - not many races you can enter on the day for £5. And the childrens race gave medals, all for an entry fee of 50p. It was a tough race but gave a real sense of achievement at the end. Date of review: October 18, 2011

In short: Great day out for the whole family In full: I'll go out of my way to do this one again. Easy to get to. HQ just a few hundred yards from the course. Friendly Marshals. Scenic course with very clear markers. Thats all we really ever want, but this race had so much more. From the singing of the National Anthem at the start, to the excellent T shirts and Slate Coasters. Not to mention the Jelly Babies, Jaffa Cakes, Apples and Carrots at the finish. Oh and the organic giant marrows as prizes. Plus... the free prize draw using race numbers. Date of review: September 18, 2011

In short: Some of the comments are a bit harsh! In full: Lets get this into perspective! On the plus side we had easy parking which was free, chip timing, a goody bag and medal, two or three water stations, the roads closed off, friendly marshalls and on the whole great scenery. Yes a marshall was out of place which meant we ran too far, but at least we all did the same distance - see it as a training run and think how much easier your next 'proper' 10K will feel!! In short: Great race with plenty for the kids to do......... In full: No need for a guilt trip here. The parking is right at the start on a grassy field overlooking the glorious sandy beach and with a nice kids play area and cafe right next to it the family were happy. Really well organised, chip timing, clear markers and plenty of marshalls. Supportive crowd and nice goody bag. I hope Chesnut Tree House raised a lot from this run as they certainly put in the effort. Date of review: September 12, 2010
