In short: the hills are a killer but the cake at the end is well worth the pain In full: I did the 10k and it was my first race in about 4yrs. It was incredibly friendly, great organisation and really welcoming. Not many runners in the 10k class and they were mostly uberfit club runners.
The course is incredibly beautiful although the last 1k is a bizarre (and very hilly) loop which takes you past the turn to the finish off down a lane and then up a horrid hill. It is a really really hilly run (well this is the Peak District) however there is tea and cake at the finish line (and lots of lovely people to cheer you on as you stagger up the hill to the finish line)
I ran 1hr10 having needed to walk well over 1km in the middle due to hills and lack of proper training. I came last which was a bit depressing - in the past when I've run other 10k races there have been several people in the slow group but as there were only about 40 runners in total in the group I suppose I should have realised it might be quick.
I'll definitely be back next year but might tend my wounds by choosing a flatter race for my next one and doing some hill training before I tackle the bunny run again Date of review: May 14, 2013
