In short: ideal preperation for spring marathon!!! In full: 2 years ago i did the Tempest and at the time set a pb;never did i think id ever come back for the Spitfire, let alone do it in what i consider to be a decent time.. The early part of the course has been changed (for the BETTER) and it has some challenging hills, but nothing that proper training cant prepare you for... the marshalls were BRILLIANT and i found there were enough drinks stations that gave u gels, drinks and jelly babies....
i will be back next year!!!! Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: i did a pb;what more could i want??!!! In full: the summary sais it all, however the pb owes a lot to the lady runner (i believe from Ranleigh?) who ran with me up to 7 miles;without YOU the pb would'nt have been poss!!! Date of review: April 15, 2011
In short: weather didnt help!!! In full: despite the weather i managed a PB at this race!!!! ive done this race before,so i know how well its organised, and being local to me,i have no worry about an early start!!!! see you next year!!! Date of review: May 5, 2010
In short: New PB!!!!! In full: despite the "undulating" sections of this race (which is nothing most people wouldnt be able to handle),i set a NEW pb,the old one having stood for 3 years,so it will be very difficult, for me to be critical of this race!!! HOWEVER there were a couple of occasions when "sunday morning" drivers, got a little irate at being held up for runners, and for that reason i hope the rumour of INCREASED entry for next years race,ISNT true because the early part of the course WOULDNT be able to cope with an increase in runners!!!
In short: to many runners? In full: i did this race last year and the course this year was better,BUT you need to look at maybe limiting the entry;even if the weather had been better, the early part of the course was to CONGESTED!!! im assumnig the congestion at the finish was because of the INCREASED(?) entry, either way this SHOULDNT happen.. and whilst i agree with the sentiment that the race is for charity, surely it should mention on the website, that you NOT guarenteed a t-shirt? if there were mile markers i didnt see them? having said all that i wll be back (if i can get in!!!) Date of review: February 23, 2010
In short: i finished this time!!!! In full: this time last year,i went to this event;my fitnesslet me down, and i didnt finish the race... i came back this year for a 2nd go,and although i finished this time (2hr 05) there were still problems i need to iron out... as with last year, the race marshalls were EXCELLENT,and i will be back next year lighter and fitter, and i WILL break 2hrs!!!
i ran the 1st 3 laps with 2 guys,1 may have been Greek, the other was called Martin;THANKS guys, and sorry i couldnt stay with you!!!! Date of review: August 23, 2009
In short: i will be back.... In full: the only downside to todays race, was the car park being moved (the reasons for this were explained at the start),OTHER than that it was yet another enjoyable day out,and I WILL BE BACK!!! Date of review: July 12, 2009
In short: Any chance of some rain!!!!! In full: This is the 4th year in a row that ive done this,so i know the course well(inc the "ups and downs"),i know how well organised it is,i know the marshalls are BRILLIANT,what i cant work out is how i managed a PB for the course (in those conditions)and only missed my pb for the distance by just over a minute!!!! all i ask for is a bit of rain!!! i would agree with the comment on the start time (thats cos i dont have to travel far!!!)
In short: the wind killed a PB!!!! In full: i to was worrried about previous reports, but was prepared to see if the organisers had learnt their lesson;a switch of date seems to have sorted that out!!! without the head wind at 9k this is a pb course,BUT on an airfield you have to expect a little crosswind dont you!!! enjoyable run,i even had time on parts of the course to "admire" the marks left by our friends of the BBC programme "Top Gear" i will be back next year, perhaps someone can arrange to have the "wind tunnel" turned off!!!
