In short: A quick but flawed race In full: I've run this race before and love the course. It's fast and well marshalled. However the start this year was chaotic (a lot of this had to do with the weather to be honest). People putting baggage in late led to a shambles as all the late runners, many of whome were at the slower end of the pack, funnelled in at the front, and promptly ran three abreast blocking the way for all the others who had prepared properly and got in their correct starting area. I spent the first mile just barging past people. Please can we have better organisation at the start to stop this happening? So close to being a very good event. Shame. In short: A good friendly race ! In full: This was the first time I have run the GER, and was very impressed. The scenery isn't great, 13 miles of suburban Peterborough, but the organisation and atmosphere around the route more than made up for that, and I thought the goody bag was great. I'll be there next year ! Date of review: October 14, 2008
In short: Well done Evesham ! In full: This is without doubt one of the friendliest and well organised races I have ever done. The course is a nice mix of road, path and trail, and is lovely and scenic by the river. The marshalls were encouraging and very friendly too. This is the first time this race has been run, and it went like clockwork. All credit to Evesham Vale running club for a great race that I will definitely be back for next year ! In short: Scenic, friendly, and well organised In full: A really good scenic course with a couple of testing hills. The marshalls were very friendly and encouraging. Bit tight at the start, and as always there were a few slow runners who started at the front (why do they do that ?). Overall a great challenging race that I enjoyed and will be back to do next year. In short: Supeb race In full: This has to be one of the best organised half marathons going. The marshalls did their jobs really well and were very encouraging to runners, the course was clearly marked, and the water stops were frequent and well organised. The scenery was a little dull in parts, but that was made up for by the stretches through the parks and that fantastic view as you turn left onto the Kenilworth Road. My only (small) criticism is the fact that it was difficult to find the appropriate start position as you could only join the crowd at the back and barge your way forward. Otherwise faultless and very enjoyable. Will definitely run this one again. Date of review: October 22, 2007
In short: Good challenging course, generally well organised In full: Really enjoyed my first Watford half ! Thought the event was generally well organised. Race HQ was good, good supportive marshalls. Could have done with another water stop towards the end though, and the goody bag was a little disappointing (banana or energy bar would have been nice). The course itself was great, some challenging hills in the first half, and some really enjoyable fast downhill stretches on the way home. Weather was cracking, and took nearly 3mins of my PB ! Would definitely do it again, well done Watford Harriers. Date of review: February 5, 2007
In short: A very friendly race on a good undulating course ! In full: A very friendly race set in the undulating Warwickshire countryside. The course wasn't as bad as I had feared , bit of an energy sapping incline in miles 10-11, and a short but steep one at mile 12. Other than that was pretty okay !
The marshalling was excellent, with good encouragement from all. I thought the start was a bit disorganised though, the start siren took me by surprise, and I couldn't see the start line ! Apart from that very good, and one I will definitely do again. Date of review: October 9, 2006
