In short: snowy conditions today made this great race even more special
In full: lots of ice and mud today, which added to the challenge. great camaraderie between the runners and super perks.. the cooked brekkie at the end really hit the spot. Well done again Dr Rob and thanks to all the fab marshals and other assistants.

don't forget to vote in the runner's world PB awards, especially for our brilliant local retailer!...

In short: The hardest half got a lot harder!
In full: Awesome event! 11 major climbs (and perhaps worse than that, 11 descents) in 16 miles over the full variety of surfaces - flinty tracks, grass, mud and even one on super smooth Olympic-quality tarmac. You could slice a loaf of bread very thinly indeed using a cutout of the course profile! Great atmosphere with the out-and-back and looping nature of the course, plus the presence of Picnicers (massive kudos to these guys for indulging in the double portion), meaning that I was never far away from encouraging fellow competitors. To top this off, in the only lonely spot on the course stood a piper!! Having been doing this lark for about 30 years, I would say that yesterday was my all-time favourite course - the perfect parcours over this sort of distance. My respect and congratulations to the organisers, marshals and other runners.

In short: very tough as individual event featuring 3 scenic offroad climbs
In full: After my teammates minced out n cried off with minor ailments I was left to run it alone this year, having done leg 2 of the relay in 2010. Organisation and signage was very good indeed and marshalls very friendly. The worst bits of the course are the long run back along the A24 to complete the second leg (boring and tarmac) and the 3rd leg climb (steep), which this year also featured a strong headwind. Other than that it was just lovely. The somewhat out n back nature of the route increased camaraderie amongst participants, which was very good and provided a few much needed boosts. All in all a tough but fun day out.
I have only one minor gripe.. having been dreaming of a badger beer for the last half hour of the run, I arrived at the finish to find copious quantities of said elixir, but sadly no bottle opener in sight!! Fortunately, Nicky the organiser was off like a flash to find one as soon as I pointed this out. Well done ETL on another excellent event.
