In short: Baggage disaster In full: Having done this event a good few years ago and with it being cancelled last year because of snow, thought I would give it a go this year, everything was OK and as the organises had requested I made use of the park and ride, this was my first mistake, arrived nice and early and got from the car park to the race start with 90minutes before the start, I was amazed at how many people had ignored the race organises and just turned up and parked at the start. Race run and all OK but when it came time to collect the bags from the baggage area, there was over 1 hour wait with the queue stretching all the way back to the road, just what you want when you have run a half marathon, the organises seemed not to care and did nothing to help because they had the awards for first place to give out, no explanation was given as to why it was so bad and when you finally did get to the front of the queue you had to describe your bag so they could try and find it Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: Forgotten about the hills In full: Keep coming back every year and like the title says I must have forgotten about the hills. A couple of gripes Only Medium t-shirts left, when I asked if i looked a medium the marshall snapped back, well don't have it then! PA system was a joke Loads of runners with ipods even though they are banned Other than those a good race well oganised Date of review: October 1, 2012
In short: Great race but concerns over organisation In full: A runner died at London Marathon which was no ones fault, someone could have died here and the organisers would have been to blame, I know they have now said sorrybut thats easy afterwards. I had already paid to enter another xtra mile race and I now want my money back Date of review: May 1, 2012
In short: Best race of the year In full: First time OH has done this race and she's now hooked, we have pictures for our lad to take to school tomorrow and we didn't even do that for FLM, says it all really.
The fancy dress, the climbs, the marshals, the other runners, the people watching, THANK YOU.
In short: Flat & fast In full: Fast, flat course. Not a race for good scenery - just good times. Lots of roundabouts. Pity about the impatient sunday drivers. Great to receive a towel (and a bunch of flowers) as opposed to another crappy t-shirt. Reviewed by Mrs SA. Date of review: August 19, 2007
In short: One of the best races of the year In full: First time I have run this and it won't be the last. Half the entries all in fancy dress with some excellent themes going on, like the fox hunt, a couple of people dressed like foxes then more people dressed like fox hounds and lastly people with full riding gear on carry hobby horses. All the runners not in fancy dress looked like they wished they had tried. That said this is NOT an easy run, a long climb just after the start that seems to go on forever and finishes in the clouds. Times not brilliant, but then this event isn't about times its about having fun Date of review: December 17, 2006
In short: Course a little dull - but a good race. In full: Didn't even think I would be running this race as my race entry didn't get to the race secretary until the day before. He rang me the same day to say I could pick up my race number on the day. I am glad I did. It was a very well organised race. I have only one critisism (and it is very small). The course was a little bit on the dull side - run through housing estates. (although the amount of residents that came out to cheer on the runnners was brilliant!) It was great to finish a race and have a shower not to mention a hot one! Two runners even went back to shake my husband and son's hand to thank them for their support in the closing stages of the race! At the end of the race, one of the officials gave me an extra goody bag for my son. Date of review: October 16, 2006
