In short: Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink! In full: One water station at 4 miles is pathetic, particularly on a sunny warm day and especially as 3 were advertised. Overpriced event, at best, casually organised with a dreadful goody bag, all for the princely sum of £17. Just for the record this is the first negative review I've ever had to leave in over three years of plodding around races. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Excellent race. My cup runneth over with mulled wine! In full: A lovely 2 lap course with muddy uphill and fast road down through scenic grounds of stately home. Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere with a bit of fancy dress thrown in for good cheer. Mulled wine and mince pies for afters plus an ickle christmas pudd and medal. Perfick! In short: A terrific race with something for everyone. In full: Superb scenic venue, finding the checkpoints kept it interesting, challenges included a bit of rope assisted mud climbing, wading through streams, crawling through tunnels and even a quick dip in a freezing lake. Combine all that with the running and biking for 5 hours, add a great atmosphere and it makes for a memorable race. I'd also like to nominate the race photographer as the happiest I've encountered yet - I'll have a pint of what he was on please!
In short: Well organised, cheap as chips and great facilities! In full: Very enjoyable race. One question, can the two styles be dismantled for the hour of the race to stop the queing? Date of review: March 25, 2008
In short: Promised much delivered little! In full: Weather was terrible, wet and windy, course nearly all thick mud or flooded! So far so good, but where was the assault course???
VOTwo advertised..... "Of course at the end of each run section there will be a special assault course treat! At the end of the final run teams will enter the now famed 'Dirty Double Arena' where highly trained Gorillas will wrestle and impede the team's progress. The 3 metre wall provides the final test. Assault course will include: Monkey bars Snakes wedding Bouncy Bouncy room The Bog slide The Wall And...... every ones favourite, The Gorilla Pen."
What we got was a cargo net to crawl under after each run and at the finish a couple of excercise balls to climb over, two blokes in damp gorilla suits and a 3m wall.
No monkey bars, no snake wedding(?), no bog slide, no balance beams, it was nothing like their advertised video. Very disappointing. Date of review: March 18, 2008
In short: Best race of the year! Tough course, great scenery, t-shirt, cake and beer! In full: Simply the friendliest race around. Don't tell the masses or they'll spoil it for us priviledged few! Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: Superbly sticky mud! In full: Slippy mud, no big hills. I found the bumpy grass track by the river the hardest part. Low key and friendly. Will definately be back. Date of review: September 3, 2007
In short: Beautiful scenery from the top. In full: The race was tough but scenic, really well organised. I found the last half mile (seemed much longer) up a relatively gentle hill was a real killer. Date of review: September 3, 2007
In short: Overheard at about 2K ,"they'll have us running through back gardens next:." In full: Great variety of terrain and scenery, some inclines and surfaces were quite challenging, but all the better for it. Personally I liked the rain, it saves messing about with sponges.
