In short: Not bad at all In full: My first time doing this race - friendly, encouraging marshalls, well marked out course with clear mile markers. Fairly pleasant course except for the wind and the impatient chav swearing at me at one of the junctions where marshalls were stopping traffic to allow runners to cross.
Some warning of the water stations would helpful. I missed the first one as there was no warning that it was coming. I was on the far side of the patch and couldn't get over in time.
Although the start wasn't at all crowded starting pens based on expected time would helpful. I spent much of the race overtaking people.
Bottle neck at the finish was frustrating and, for the price, it was disappointing not to get any sort of food/snack at the end, which I was really looking forward to for the last 3 miles!
In short: Good fun In full: This is the 1st off road race that I have ever done - thoroughly enjoyed it.
I notice a lot of people not happy with the parking arangements. We did have to wait a bit driving in, but drove straight out of the car park in minutes so I guess we must have been very punctual leaving or something.
All good fun, particularly bog of doom and sliding down the slope into the water. I realise that maybe not much can be done about the width of the paths in the woods but I felt that the first third or so of the course was way too crowded and I didn't really do myself justice because of this... or maybe that's missing the point.
Also there seemed to be very few marshalls on the course. What would have happenedif someone injured themselves half way around.
Friendly atmosphere, though and nice comaraderie between runners during the run too.
Would probably try this again or maybe try one of the other Hellruns. Date of review: November 5, 2007
