In short: The race route was pretty dull when you think of the potential of Edinburgh. we were directed out of the city as fast as possible. We might as well have been running in sheerness or something In full: It was clear they needed to tag on a few hundred meters here and there and rather than use imagination the make you run up a little hill for 400 meters then straight back down to then continue along the coast. There also seemed to be a huge gap in fuel stations at around the 17 to 20 mile mark, right when people need it.
Locals were the only saviour in the heat with the kids shooting welcome water pistols and hoses at you which was great fun for all, nothing there of note from the officials to cool you down. There was a shower of some kind but only had a tiny dribble of water going through.
Plenty of cheering at the end which was a nice experience but after crossing the finish line the race was a complete disaster.
The 'beer tent' (15 min walk) was a small caravan with a queue of 60+ people, better to not have anything at all rather than tease people with the prospect of a nice cool one.
The transportation was diabolical back to the city. A 25 min walk to get to the bus, then a 30 min queue to get on the bus, which then sat in traffic for 30 mins plus! I think this, above all tainted the race for many people.
Oh and don't bother with hiring a GPS tracker for your sponsors to keep a track of you, it didn't work. To be fair I was refunded but disappointed. Date of review: June 25, 2010

In short: Good friendly atmosphere. In full: Pace maker for 50 minute pace was hallucinating a bit! I finished in about 47 minutes and he was still with me at the 9km mark.
Not sure about the total distance, the markers up to about 7km appeared accurate accorting to my Garmin but total distance came in at 10km and 250 meters, it made my sprint finish a little longer that I would have liked!
Goody bag was great and plenty for my little boy to do whilst he was waiting with him mum.
Get there early though, all traffic from all directions was funneled down to 1 lane, very odd and slow. Date of review: September 10, 2009
