In short: Windy in Warks.... In full: I usually choose a run/race based on ratings/rep for organisation and venue. Having done a raceways event before I knew the organisation would be good and trusted that the description of the venue was accurate. Unfortunately, it wasn't...a flat course with PB potential had it not been for the 30 mph winds but a misreable location...run down would be an understatement. Date of review: November 21, 2009
In short: Ghoulish fun..... In full: A fun run through the fields and woods at 11pm with only glow sticks to point the way! The organisation was great and the run was only let down by the low number of participants. This was a nice change to the daily grind of training...well done Martine! Date of review: November 1, 2009
In short: A nice start...! In full: For a first-time run, this was a nice one. The organisation was good despite having to fit everything into a small area. The organiser greeting every finisher, on his birthday no less, was a nice touch and the food was a nice warm-up after the 'terrible twins'.
In short: Hell and high water...? In full: Having done the southern version, I must admit that I found the Northern iteration somewhat easier. This was a bit unfortunate as I held back waiting for the inevitable 'hills of hell...' which never really came....yes there were hills, plenty of them. However, most were single file and you couldn't really get any speed up. It was also a bit of a worry that so many people struggled with the first real climb from the start line...nevertheless, any excuse to get wet and muddy! Will look forward to the next version, in Scotland? Date of review: October 29, 2006
In short: The rave reviews were all correct!!! In full: This was a great morning run! The fact that it was the 2nd anniversary was even better...shirts, free food (yes, free food!) and even a celeb or two. Date of review: October 7, 2006
In short: Generally nice and well organised. In full: Running 3 laps at any distance can be mind numbing...weather was fine and organisation great tho'...only downside was that I had thought that the entry to the museum was included, probably didn't read the race details properly. In short: Nice training race.... In full: Having not done any training and not run in anything longer than a 10K since last fall I was a bit dubious of doing this 1/2...shouldn't have been, nice course, well marshalled, no traffic and a nice medal. Only one slight whinge and that is about trying to drive out from the car parking at the end...not the organizers fault, just tiny roads, lots of cars and lotsa runners trying to walk on the road....overall tho' great run. In short: Could do much better... In full: This race had a lot of promise but was let down in a number of areas.
1. Lack of signs to aprking areas. 2. Multi-race start. 3. Water stations (good that there was so many, next time use adults rather than little kids). 4. No momento/medal. If it is advertised and people pay £10 then you need to come up with the goods! After traveling 220 miles, staying ove night and then driving back it would have been nice to have something to show for my efforts (probably more of an issue considering I let myself down with a depressingly poor performance!). In short: Too Cold, too long, too......bad I wasted 12 quid and a day! In full: The delay was diabolical...no excusefor delaying 2 minutes from the start! The race was over 10K...I sped up on the last kilometer and it was still 2minutes slower than my average K pace! There I was feeling sorry for myself for running so slowly, blaming the cold that i was still suffering from and doubting myself...good to know that it wasn't just me (I swear I didn't walk the last one K).
