In short: Close...but no cigar. One for the charity runners really. In full: I ran my fastest ever 10K here last year and I was gunning for a new PB (or so I thought), that being the only reason I forked out a steep £26 to do it. The minute the organisers announced it was only going to be a 9K I lost my mojo. Most experienced runners were gutted but the fun runners gave a cheer (more about them later). Great credit to the organisers for still making a race possible. I'd taken a position inside the under 45 minutes pen and I was very frustrated at having to pass hundreds of corporate and fun runners dressed as fairies etc just to find some clear space around the narrow track. Once that was done I quite enjoyed it and if it had been 10K I would have smashed my PB. Never mind, I'll give this one more go next year as it's only a tenner but I'm starting at the front. In short: It's a great race! In full: My second go at the Beverley 10K and it won't be my last. Fantastic organisation at Beverley Leisure Centre. Plenty of parking and loos and a chance to watch the fun run before the main event. Lovely to start right next to the Minster and the initial run through Wednesday Market and under North Bar a really good start. A challenging climb up the Westwood and to Walkington but all downhill from there (definitely a negative split race). The run down the Westwood recharged the legs for a kick as I enter Saturday Market. Once off the cobbles a sprint finish to Wednesday Market past the cheering crowds. Apples, bananas and water at the finish and a chance to cheer other runners home. Wiped 50 seconds off last years time and so chuffed I jogged back to the Leisure Centre for my technical t-shirt and back to the car. Bring on 2014! Date of review: May 20, 2013

In short: A great event. Miss this on and you've missed out. In full: Only one week after running the VLM but there was no way I was going to miss this after doing it last year. Fantastic organisation and the regular emails, facebook updates and tweets really made me feel part of something special. Really flat & quick course and the finish in Glanford Park a lovely conclusion. Date of review: April 30, 2013

In short: Nicely challenging and well organised. In full: My first Norton 9 and probably not my last. Plenty of parking and right next to race HQ. Using toilets in a primary school always makes you feel 10 feet tall! Bit of a squash at the start but once we were off there was plenty of room and plenty of banter. A couple of testing hills on the way round but other than that a comfortable route. Short climb right before the end a bit cheeky! Enjoyed this one and will come back. Date of review: March 3, 2013

In short: A race of two halves! In full: First time this year for me and a PB! I didn't make use of the facilities at the nearby school and went straight to the start. A few cars still coming through right up to the start time but no real problems. A long climb out of Skidby to Little Weighton was a good test and certainly sorted the men from the boys. After that it was mostly flat with long straight sections and I was much quicker in the 2nd half. The sun even came out halfway round to brighten my mood. Technical t-shirt at the finish is a good one and will get much wear. All in all a good local event. Date of review: February 25, 2013

In short: Grass, trail & road! A good challenge. In full: First time for me this year and I ran a PB. I reckon that's a pretty good endorsement. Start at RAF Cranwell really well organised and chip timing is always a plus for me. Race set off across grassy fields and after a short spell on tarmac we were on a farmer's track. The frost made the rutted ground a little tricky but it would have been worse in wet mud. After a mile onto tarmac for the rest of the route with long straight sections and long gentle climbs before returning to the grass for the last 1/2 mile. Loved the fluorescent technical t-shirt which will get lots of use for training and the hot cup of tea was a nice touch. All in all a good event and great value for money, just not sure about that farmer's track section. Date of review: February 25, 2013
