In short: Hills as far as the eye could see
In full: My training partner warned me that the hills on the first 4.5k were steep and she wasn't wrong! It was a tough race and there were quite a few people walking up the hills (why? it's a run not a ramble people!!!).

Some of the downhills are also quite steep which can be difficult as you have to control your running when your wobbly legs just want to give way!

I'd do it again but only with more hill training beforehand.

Nice T-Shirt though :-)

In short: A challenging race if you aren't used to trail running, great weather & organisation
In full: I rated this as NO when asked last year if I'd do it again but my competetive side got the better of me and there I was on the start line again! It's a tough race if you're a road & treadmill runner like me but it's well worth it to test yourself. I also got stuck behind the angry lady on horseback along with Mean Muommy - how did she get on the trail? And more to the point how much time can I deduct for the delay :-)

In short: A day to remember! I had a fantastic race experience!
In full: It was my first GNR and first half so I was a bit nervous, but from the start to the finish the crowd spurred you on - thanks for the lemon tip top at mile 9 yum! The Nike wall of sound was excellent although it didn't go on for long enough.

I thought I'd be queuing for ages for EVERYTHING but the longest wait was for the loos at about 9:30am. I think we waited longer for those than for the Metro at 4pm and the queue for that was 5 times as long!

Goodie bag was a bit disappointing - dried fruit and a fishermans friend urggh! The one from Help the Aged was better with a nice chunky cereal bar and some Body Shop freebies.

The only real bug bear was the rude runners who couldn't wait until there was a big enough gap to pass you and barge past and then pulled right in front of you so you're almost tripping up on their heels. But this happens in every race so it's not a GNR thing, it's a general lack of courtesy.

In short: Didn't get chance to look at the scenerey - too busy watching where I was putting my feet on the bumpy, muddy track! I'm too clumsy for this kind of run!

In short: Great for my first 10k - fewer hills than I'm used to in training!
