In short: Fast Canal action! In full: With the revised route and almost straight into the woods was a great way to start, the conditions were perfect cool and no rain or snow! didn't love the road section to Ash although it was only about a mile or 2 stretch then back to off road! The stairs at 7.5m did sap your energy when you were building for a strong finish! and who thought about putting a pro photographer there!!?? crazy! Good fun race in review!! In short: Sponges, Heath, Hoses! In full: First of all this was my first smaller marathon event (under 1000 people) and it really helps you get into your pace from a very early stage. The heat was getting to people from about 10 mile mark, good cover though, water stations seemed like they were every 2 miles, I thought carrying your own sponge wouldn't work but it did and was a great addition. The hill at mile 17 was a point to focus, loved the crowd they were great the whole way round, and when you come over the railway bridge into Gore road you know you only have 500metres left and that road is straight and fast! Fantastic race. Date of review: September 28, 2009
In short: Shady, slightly hilly friendly race In full: Don't mind with the no goody bag, for the price what a great half marathon, have done quite a few over the years and love the road closures, friendly marshalls, countryside location didn't even mind that 95% was on the road! The end dip in the field does make your legs feel like they have just come off a bouncy castle, but other than that, GOOD TIMES!
In short: Fun, Hot, Fast In full: The temperature did unsettle a few! The traffic calmed, The scenery was great when on the Reading road, although by that point with the sun in your face cows were not important! Did appreciate the 800,400,200m signs at the end!! Date of review: August 6, 2009
In short: FOREST MAGIC! In full: Evening running through swinley forest couldn't be better even with a little rain! Loved the slurry at mile 4. Fast straights, fast finish. One to definately put in the diary for next year. Date of review: June 12, 2009
In short: Deep in places! In full: Glad that the water station was at 3 miles and at 7 mile mark with the hot weather, could have done with maybe a half way marker? Mud was really good fun, don't know why people choose to do it if they don't want to get wet! Other than that really enjoyable fun race event that is just good fun and leaves you with a happy face. In short: Great training for the jump after 10k! In full: If one needed to jump from a 10k to something longer, what a great way. The hill onto the hogs back is just about a mile of rising dips, its not that bad! With the bonus of a long speedy cruise downhill afterwards! The flat road straights between 5.5-7miles really helped to pick up speed and pace, with a cheeky little hill at the end. Was my second time running and still forgot how far the finish is from entering Losely house! Date of review: December 14, 2008
In short: Excellent first-time half marathon, really well organised, loved the kids with water pistols at 9 miles! will be back definately next year! great Marshalls that really kept you going! Date of review: March 11, 2007
