In short: Best supported marathon in the world In full: The crowd is what makes the London marathon special. I didn't write my name on my t-shirt but even so the crowd gives you a massive lift. There are always slower runners in front of you so it's difficult to maintain your pace. Not huge PB potential even though I knocked 23 minutes off mine. Lots of drinks available, great organisation, friendly people everywhere. You simply have to compete in this race at least once. Date of review: April 15, 2008

In short: Hilly thigh and calf burner! In full: My home town race. This was my first year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's growing each year but it's still small enough so that you don't have to queue for the toilets. I clocked a pb 1:31 which was a bit of a surprise given the terrain. Nice to see Richard Taylor ex-Woodlands school finish 3rd. Well done chap. I love running up and down hills so this was a great course for me - really demanding. My only small gripe is that there were not that many spectators out and about but still there were plenty banging things together & shouting encouragment. Date of review: October 22, 2007
