In short: Great day out, killer hills! In full: Lovely race - hills in the first 3 miles are a killer though! Don't expect a PR on this course, but very scenic, marshalls very encouraging, all round lovely day out especially if having picnic after and wandering around the zoo! One thing to note - the discount to get in the zoo for the wife and kids was next to nothing - so it still ended up costing them £30 to watch me (and nip round the zoo afterwards of course!). Overall i really enjoyed it - see you next year! Date of review: April 30, 2007

In short: Nice course, could have been better In full: Nicely segmented into estimated time slots at the start, but the start line needs to be made much more obvious for people with stopwatches.
Some running during the first 2km through residential but this was all on the road and traffic was well policed.
Nice scenery out in the countryside and around Goodwood.
Traffic was a problem and not well controlled around the Pook Lane area. Marshalls ensured runners stayed on the left, but allowed cars to come up on the right-hand side of the road which meant runners were squeezed when oncoming traffic appeared.
Very little support. No encouragement at all from the marshalls.
Not great for beginners - no water station, and if you run slower than 12:00 pace you could expect everyone to be packed up and gone when you get to the finish line!
Course was a little hillier than i expected.
Drinks station at the end was not obvious so glad i took my own.
Despite all my grumbling i got a new PB so still very happy and i enjoyed the course!

In short: Excellent for a first time race, but please no mud next year! In full: Excellent organisation, great day out, nice scenery along seafront and through dockyard. Plenty of club runners, fun runners, charity runners etc.
Please don't divert us onto the mud after the finish next year though! Date of review: November 20, 2006

In short: Friendly marshalls, nice scenery, some pavement running In full: Great event, this was my first half marathon and i was a bit concerned it would be for club runners primarily, and there was a lot of club runners but plenty of unattached runners too.
Marshalls were extremely friendly and supportive to everyone without exception.
Good support from the crowds around the start/finish areas, and along the seafront - less so when going through the town though.
Mostly pavement running once the bunching at the start has dispersed after 3 miles. There is the occasional impatient driver (but that's Gosport for you!) but these are more than easily handled by the many police dotted around the course.
Overall an excellent day out, good organisation, and i'll be back next year - a big thanks to everyone at Gosport Road Runners who made this a great event! Date of review: November 19, 2006
