In short: Great race with a few issues, good local support. In full: No problems getting to the Common, then we encountered the Car Park Marshalls - oh dear, why have two lanes coming in, split them then into four lanes, then back into two lanes causing back logs - whats that all about ???
Great race organisation itself, plenty of signage, loos etc, great guy on the PA keeping everyone entertained. Horrific weather as is usual for the GSR, third year in a row now weather has been less than ideal. The new wave start was much better than last year, only gripe with it is that some of the so called "faster runners" in Orange wave A & B were walking by the 2nd mile ??? - c'mon guys, be honest next time and let faster runners have a chance will ya ???
Good support all along the course from the locals, well managed finishing area with a great goody bag and a quality medal. No issues exiting the common, made a quick get away (less than 2 minutes) after learning the hard way last year which took over 90 minutes.
Overall, a great race, would recommend, especially for newbies. Date of review: October 28, 2008
In short: Very tough challenging course, very scenic and charming but very testing. Not enough water stations in the second half and no drinks at the end!!! In full: Very good organisation at the start area, slick and well sign posted, started bang on time. The route itself was out of this world, very beautiful and scenic, lots of picture postcard distractions on route. No problems with local traffic (I must have been one of the luckier one's from what I've heard). Water stations were few and far between in the last 13 miles, and no sports drinks at all along the whole route ??? - what's that all about ???.
Slightly zigg-zaggy finish area, but not an issue, biggest gripe is that there were no drinks (or food) available at the finish for us marathon runners, and no working showers either - never mind though - scenary more than made up for the school boy errors at the end. Great race atmosphere between runners, and the spectators and marshalls were brilliant. Date of review: September 23, 2008
In short: 2nd time around and still challenging, but fantastic value & great fun. In full: Very slick organisation throughout, great marshalls, superb goody bag and medal, and a challenging course with a killer start.
Some roads (and the alleyway) were too narrow to run down two-a-breast, hence we had to run on the roads, but otherwise no problems with the course. Great set-up and a great Half Marathon - count me in for next year !!!
N.B. - The Missus did the Fun Run - again - organised with great care and attention, and a goody bag and medal - for just 1 quid entry fee - result !!! Date of review: July 20, 2008
In short: Very very poor, in the last year I've done six half marathons, and a number of other events - will never do this one again - very badly organised from start to finish. In full: Very dissappointed with the organisation of this race. Right from the off, things didn't look good, very few pacing zones - how can you put 65 mins and 90 mins runners together ???
Open drinking cups - what's that all about ??? - and nice and warm too !!! Very little crowd or Marshall support, most of the marshalls too busy talking to each other or on mobile phones ???
Shame had to dodge pedestrians and little old Dorris's on the final mile, anybody would have thought the event actually had "organisers" - lol.
Also had same medal as the 5Km fun runners, surely half marathoners deserve a little bit more respect than that no ??? Date of review: June 10, 2007
