In short: torturously painful fun for mad happy people
In full: What a great event this was. Took me a while to decide whether to take part as the title was a bit scary. But am I glad I did. I became an honorary member of another running club for the day and 8 of us all ran together. It was so much fun it was almost possible to forget the pain - it was a tough course. But I loved almost all the obstacles, the 2 dudleys, the tunnel, straw bales, quarries, muddy ditches etc. - it was all great. I could have done without the disgusting sheep dip and cold power hose which hurt like hell but hey that is all part of it. No showers meant a makeshift wash and hoping I did not smell too bad in the pub afterwards. Can't wait to do it again - it was so good not being a slave to a watch though some elitist morons did decide to push and shove their way through in parts! And some people cheated in the woods where there was no marshall - get a life you saddos! But all in all a superb event, quite expensive but well worth it for the experience.

In short: The Pain The Gain The Glory
In full: This was my second GNR, the first in 2000 when I was not that experienced a runner. This year I knew a PB wwas off the menu because of injuries tormnetng me since Feb. But it was a great race. The orgnaisation was excelelnt, the deep heat sheep pens worked well, no getting hemmed in by slower runners/walkers. Sadly my legs gave up the ghost at mile 9 and 11, had to walk for a bit AND STRETCH. So no PB but still well under 2 hours so not too bad. Those hills were tougher than I remembered. My memories of the people en route, the hands, the vaseline, the oranges, the welcome showers on a warmer day than I wanted, the atmosphere in the charity village afterwards, the very welcome cold pint of Stella Artois (oops) - it was all great. I would do this every year if it was local. Next time I will crack those hills!

In short: BRING IT ON
In full: I have done the first race and am really looking forward to the July installement next week. It is a great race for veteran improvers like me, beginners and the elite sub 20min. Fast and furious or slow and calm - whatever you decide is the order of the day. Beautiful scenic location - but then again I am biased because I live literally minutes from the start line! Now if only I can do sub 23:30 this time!!!!! Ignore the pain of running hard from the off!! I will defo do this series every year it is held! Great racing!

In short: A gruelluing but glorious experience for first race in years
In full: I loved and hated this race at the same time. A veteran runner, this was my first competetive run in over 3 years after letting myself go to seed a bit! I found it very tough from mile 4-9 and the last mile was agonising. But I did a great time for me and those hills and that biting cold wind didn't get the better of my plans for sub 1:50. Great atmosphere, bit haphazard at the start but I heard the gun so only lost a few seconds on the chip finish time! Can't wait to do it again next year and go faster sub 1:45! Well done to everyone!
