In short: Not sure its the best run ever, but its up there !!!! In full: Cracking organisation, the 1st half is awesome, the 2nd half is tiring and the last 5 miles are a killer. Car parking machines weren't working as they were full of money so people were getting parking tickets - shame!! Very friendly marshals and loads of water stations !!! See you next year no doubt - Cane we order the same weather again please?? Date of review: October 28, 2012

In short: Its a local race - thats the positive bit. In full: The course is dull running thru housing estates, the medal is so cheap and tacky compared with the past 3 years. Yes you get a tee shirt, but its just covered in sponsors logos and a map of the course. Like you'll be wearing that down the pub on Friday night. Mine was supposed to be a large, more like XXL.
This is one of the only marathons I know of that if you finish in an average time of 4- 4.30 you'll be running by yourself for the last 2.5 hrs.
I keep hoping WOlves can pull it out of the bag, but it just doesn't any get better year on year.
The good points are the marshals were fantastic, the Gregs food bag is great as well. Expect support from locals on the 1st lap, but on the 2nd lap most have gone. Def wear head phones! Also Brian Smith and Bryan Dale taking free outstanding photos. Date of review: September 4, 2011

In short: a rip off but they had amazing marshals In full: I was expecting a much bigger race than this so was surprised numbers where down so much this year obviously down to the price increase and the route course change that instead of going from Derby to Nottingham now just went round the outskirts of Derby. I found the lanes just went on for ever.
The main reason I paid the over the top race fee was for the medal and t shirt the runners got last year, and while the medal was good this year it was no where near as cool as last year and the t shirt this year was covered in sponsors, so that will be another cotton tee, worn in bed for a couple of days then binned instead of being worn and advertising the race.
What with the pay to park, and pay to get to the start on top of £40 race fees I most definitely wouldn't recommend or go back. Sorry to be harsh but the marshals were amazing thru out the course. Date of review: March 20, 2011

In short: Enjoyed this low key event ! In full: The water stations were well stocked with sweets, gels and squash as well as water. Really enjoyed the course though it could have done with just a couple more signs on the way back.
Give it a go, You'll enjoy it! Date of review: December 20, 2010

In short: OMG What a 24 hours In full: This race ran like clock work!! It was like a mini festival with everyone camping (free of charge) and shops and a huge catering tent sent up. Fab hot showers and plenty of toilets. Fab medal and T shirt included!!! The course was great, though after 13 times maybe i was getting tired of the sights ;)
Some very obnoxious club runners present. All that was needed to pass was a quick "on ya left" but some just barged thru, but dont let that put you off.
If you are a solo runner there is a separate area for you to camp - take the offer up. The teams tend to stay up all night talking so go for the quiet solo area.
The marshals are fantastic!!
The only point i didn't like was after running for 23 hours I had to sit on the side line for a further 65 minutes just to get my medal. Date of review: August 3, 2010

In short: A real mixed bag here - great potential but not for me In full: There were some great things with this race and some less than great.
The car park was 3/4 mile from where you picked your numbers up from. You were asked to be there by 7.30 so ended up walking back to the car and then back to the start - An awfully long time on your feet before running 26 miles.
The course was along the Coastal Path, and involved going down the path, then turning off into an estate and round a cone then returning back to the coastal path, and then another section of coastal path, then round a lake 3 times etc etc. Some people enjoyed it but not my cup of tea. I think if the event does grow to 1500 runners next year a lot of the turnaround points would troublesome to marshal. I'm sure I saw some one just turn around half way to a turnaround point.
Marshals on the water stations were brilliant and giving out water bottles with sports caps on meant you could carry them for a couple of miles. Plenty of water available though would possibly add one more water station at 24 mile turn around point.
We were blessed with sun and little wind this year, however if it had rained and been gusting off the coast this course could be brutal!
There was a goody bag at the end with some food in (thanks!!)! A below average medal and a normal fruit of the loom event tee shirt. Date of review: April 19, 2010

In short: Fun it the hills In full: Great race, very very tough with first 7 miles going straight up.
The scenery was amazing and the support / marshals really really helped.
A nice medal instead of a t shirt would have made this even better. Date of review: March 22, 2010
