In short: Loved it! In full: It's all been said but the marshalls were fab and thank you again to Paul for being bonkers enough to allow on the day entries for all the events. Our last minute relay team had a blast! Date of review: October 6, 2010

In short: Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! In full: Was prepared for rain and vile-ness because of all the severe weather warnings. But it was sunny with a cool breeze which kept the temp down. Perfect. I thought it was very obvious where the start was. Lovely, lovely marshalls all the way round. Lovely competitors (except the naughty ones who walked up the side instead of queuing to get through that first kissing gate - I enjoyed overtaking them all on the next hill), friendly all round. The scenery is staggering and looked even more glorious on this sunny day. Not as tough as I'd expected but definitely had twingey legs on that last descent. I will be back. With friends. And yes, makes you more determined to do the full Beachy Head mara. (Just one of the SEven Sisters in this race apparently). Date of review: June 7, 2009

In short: Did the half - rolling hills, friendly runners and great, low-key organisation In full: I think this event did what it said on the tin. It was more of a run than a race, yet you still got a great medal, chip timing and superb finish. The terrain in the second half was easy to run on and, I thought, was beautiful. I spose the second half may be less juicy than the first half but that's the right way round for a mara, isn't it? My comments are all coloured by the fact that I really only did this as a Sunday training run with a medal, but I thought it really was charming and professionally done. The Trust volunteers were all amazingly kind and everyone smiled all day. Yes the mile markers were out (especially the last one) but this isn't really a PB event anyway. Hope they put the finishing times on line. Thought all the different events/distances all starting at different places/times worked really well. Date of review: May 4, 2009

In short: Tip top In full: Great organisation, lovely course - out and back but back along a different route, if that makes sense, so in no way boring - playful hills on the return, espcially that one at 6.5 miles. Lovely marshalls, excellent marshalling, the nice man in red on a bike who cycled a loop to encourage everyone, and the lovely Salisbury club people who did all the organising, drinks stations etc etc. And nice to finish on a track! In short: Lovely, friendly, well-organised - pity that some signage disappeared. In full: Loved this race. It was all so efficient with maps, all the different distances, walkers, runners etc. It was let down by some signage missing at the end in the city, but I spoke to the lovely organiser Ludo who had been out at 4am putting up the signage so it wouldn't be nicked. Not his fault that it was... There weren't many marshalls, but that's the nature of the race. And we were all given maps and asked to carry them with us so that was fine.
I did the 20k which came in at 13.55 miles on my Garmin (which always over measures).
Just had a lovely run on a sunny but not-too-hot day. Chatted to loads of people on the way round who were also having a non-pressurised run and enjoying it.
And my 13 yr old son did the 10k with his Dad - a great way for a youngster to enter a 10k race.

In short: Great grandstand finish, lovely marshals, beware the wind In full: Agree with a lot of what others have said but can't blame organisers for the wind. It's the coast - it's Scotland - it's gonna be windy!
Great marshalling. Water/lucozade etc although missed the first couple of stations cos by the time I'd spotted them it was too late. Needs more signage. yes - please leave lids on lucozade (and water even. Could just crack the lids).
Yep - start area a night mare although had no probs with the pens (pen 4).
Agree that I didn't think the profile on the website matched the actual course - or was that just me. Couldn't really see anything that represented the off road climb to Gosford House. Didn't think the off road bit was terrible other than it being a shock - I didn't know it was there and wasn't expecting a hill. But it didn't kill me (quite).
Totally agree re the crowded finish area. Had my ankles bashed by pushchairs, but I don't blame them - it was hard to find any room to move. If you want more people next year you HAVE to reorganise the finish area.
Def need a way of getting people onto the shuttle buses more efficiently. To have four great big empty buses waiting while you queued was awful. Still - the Musselburgh pubs did well out of us and the other people who couldn't face the queue.
Oh and course not easy for spectators to navigate especially with infrequent, short trains out to Musselburgh.
I actually had a lovely day - but that was a lot to do with my lovely friends who also ran. Oh Expo was so cramped I couldn't face trying to see if there was anything worth buying or investigating on the stalls. Just couldn't face the crush so we got out as fast as we could. Felt sorry for the stall holders. Wonder why so few companies wanted to put samples etc in the goody bag? Having spuds in the goody bag was hilarious! Date of review: May 26, 2008

In short: Superb organisation. Great race. Thank you! In full: I can't say more than all the other reviews about the great marshalls, signage, accurate, visible mile markers, loos and a remarkable selection of supermarkets for high speed snacking at the finish.
I just hope all the marshalls and organisers get to see all the reviews! Date of review: March 16, 2008

In short: Friendly, flattish... cruel finish In full: I enjoyed this because the sun was out, it wasn't too hot and I PB'd. (Wey hey!). Lovely marshalls, well-organised. Good finishing straight (if you ignore the fact it was uphill) with great commentary and cheering crowds. Bananas, lots of water at finish, somewhere to change etc. I know I shouldn't care, but I think it's a real shame half marathoners didn't get a medal. A half is a great achievement and def medal-worthy. And the full medal had no writing on it all which was a shame. But a good race! Date of review: October 14, 2007

In short: Hills, smiley people, hills, plenty of water, cheery spectators... oh, and some uphill bits In full: I don't do many races but lots of people I knew seemed to have turned up for this one - so it was very sociable. And it had lots of the 'big race' attributes even though it's only small-ish - chip timing, bottled water at one of the two water stations, good km marking, spectators, v. good info booklet. The race seems to have a great local reputation and some runners had travelled quite a long way to get there. I entered on the day and they were officially over the 500 limit - but they managed to fit me and lots of others in anyway - thanks to the tireless team of ladies in charge. Oh, and they even had up to date results printouts going up every few minutes - amazing!
Despite the rain loads of people turned out to watch and there was quite a party atmosphere.
Not really PB material because of the dreaded up bits (the first 3km, little bits between, then most of the last km - a killer) but very pretty and some stalwart cheering from sodden spectators all round the route. A fab downhill section at about 7km (but what goes down, has already gone well and truly up... and will do again). Date of review: May 28, 2007
