In short: Stunning scenery In full: This was a really interesting race. Varied surfaces keeps you on your toes and makes each section different. Beautiful scenery along the way is great - my favourite was running alongside the Thames and seeing the rowing boats.
Some parts of the route were a little crowded - perhaps having some staged or staggered starting groups would help with that... but no-one fell in the river (as fas as I know), so it can't have been so bad.
Definately a race to return to, if only to attack that great hill again... Date of review: October 11, 2010
In short: Good scenery but poor organisation In full: I had high hopes for this race. I'm sure I read that the route was flat, although there were a few short hills throughout the route.
Getting into the are was a challenge. There is little that the event can do about the mass of traffic on the local roads, but a bit of signposting would have helped.
Making the start line and the entrance to the car park one and the same was not a smart move, especially when there were other entry points into the many on-site car parks.
There were also far too few signs around the start/finish area so I had no idea where to head to!
As a result of the traffic and delays getting into the area, I was one of the last to start (about 10 minutes late). We raced out to enjoy the scenic roundabouts of MK and I have to say that overall the scenery was better than expected.
I got to see a lot more of the scenery than most other runners. The lack of marshalls or signs for the first two miles of the route meant that a small group of us managed to get lost adding an extra mile (according to my Garmin) to the route.
That said, once we did discover the marshalls and the refreshments along the way, they were really supportive and generally kept spirits high. Some of the route does get narrow and perhaps the organisers need to think about phased starts so that the route doesn't get too congested.
Overall, with a bit more organisation and signage, this would be a good event. Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Everything about this day was great In full: To summarise, this is one of the best events I've attended. It was really well marshalled, and the route, although narrow at some points, was a great mix of on & off road, hills and flat. But the best thing about this race (apart from the tea & cakes) was just how welcoming and warm everyone was before, during and after the run. Date of review: February 22, 2009
In short: Really crowded & narrow streets - good atmosphere, but not good for PB In full: I thought this was supposed to be a 3.1 mile race, but my Garnmin claims I did 3.44 miles. I know it looses some accuracy in town, but surely not 10%?
And grouping of racers by pace was not great. Made getting past the slow runners really really difficult and unless you are at teh very front, a PB is just not possible.
Love the idea of the city race, just not the execution. Date of review: July 17, 2008
