In short: Best to ignore the watch and enjoy the beautiful scenes. In full: I ran this last year and it was the hardest race I'd ever encountered; had the hobble the last six miles. Notwithstanding the pain, this is one of most beautiful race routes I'd ever encountered that I had to come back this year.
The organisation of the race is excellent, the atmosphere brilliant and the whole family of runners (elite to complete beginners) were all welcomed.
The race route was fantastic and the beauty of the the Lake District was there to be admired in near-tranquillity. The peace was broken by a delightful crowd at Newby Bridge; their cheers adding more bounce to otherwise tired legs.
I was slightly better prepared this year and with a bit more respect for the course, beat last year's time.
A fantastic day out and not just for the runners. There was plenty to do for none runners. My family went off on a fun mini-day trip and were back in good time to enjoy the entertainment at the Brathay estate and cheer my wearily legs in.
I would definitely recommended this event. Date of review: May 22, 2012
In short: Fanstastic event for both runners and spectators In full: This was a superbly organised event. Everything about the race organsation was exceptional. The organisation was exemplary and super efficient. The marshalls are deserving of special praise.
Also allow numbers to be (officially) transfered was a nice touch for runners who could no longer run and those on the waiting list.
In short: Good race worth a repeat trip In full: Good race. The atmosphere is enormously charitable with the majority of runners promoted good courses. Very crowded and serious runners needed to negotiate space so as not to experience bunching; there was a lot of tripping at the start. My GPS watch recorded the course as 6.07 miles rather than 6.21 which suggest the course was measured short.
Great atmosphere and great draw for beginners and fun runners, and good PB course for all. Date of review: May 10, 2010
In short: Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning. In full: Great event for all types of runners. A nice community feel to it with great support.
Some improvements would make it great though: marshalls could be more visible in hi-vis jackets; the gate at 200m or so needs to open as this could cause accident depending on how my bunching there is at the start.
Overall a great event, great route (all park and no traffic), and great support from organisers, volunteers, spectators and other competitors. Date of review: November 23, 2009
In short: Well organised race In full: This was a very well organised race right from pre-race parking to marshalling during the race and friendly atmosphere after. The momento in the shape of mug is a nice touch.
A special thanks to the marshalls who kept the flow of runner going despite car traffic in places.
As for PB? I cut 8 minutes off my prevous of 74.
