In short: Great day out, a good challenge before the XC starts In full: Love this race. Only issue is I couldn't hear the starter - didn't even know they'd sung the national anthem as I was fairly near the back. Could there be a louder start so we know when to press our watches? In short: Is it me or did it seem there was more uphill than downhill? In full: This race had special meaning for me as I attended the school staging the event (many years ago!). I certainly found it challengning, but the going underfoot was pretty good - from the reviews of previous years, I was expecting the ground to be much more uneven than it turned out to be. I guess the dry conditions helped. It was a pretty hilly course, and, although I know it can't be, I don't recall that much flat or downhill stretches, maybe my legs were just hurting too much to notice the brief periods of respite!
I found having to queue to get down steps and through the kissing gate a bit annoying but I guess there isn't really a way round that in the middle of the countryside!
My only gripe with the organisation was that it would have been nice to have a map of the course either in the pre-run pack or on display on the day.
I was delighted to get a PB (according to my timing - it took a few minutes to cross the start), although that was probably because I haven't run a 10K for about 9 months as I've been concentrating on longer distances. Date of review: May 18, 2008
