In short: Tough and challenging race. Treat with respect and you will enjoy it. In full: This is definitely the hardest race I have ever entered, and pushed me up to and beyond the limits O had previously come across. The course was excellent and challenging. I would agree with the other comments about this being harder than advertised. i have run all the other Lakeland Trails races, and had set my expectations of the terrain from these. In reality the section after the river crossing, through to the lake was far more technical than I expected. Having said that, all this means is that next time I had better train and prepare better. The web site did make it very clear that runners should expect to be self sufficient, and therefore was not disappointed by the level of support, in fact this adds to the challenge. At the price it is not a cheap race, and I think could be made to feel better value. Although I will probably do it again. Date of review: July 5, 2011

2011 Virgin London Marathon
 | | Overall score | | 80% | | Would you do it again? | | Maybe | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 60% | | PB potential | | 40% | | Atmosphere | | 80% | | Organisation | | 80% | | Value | | 60% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 80% |
In short: Crowded, Hot and poor racing etiquette In full: Although always special I felt that this instance did not meet up to my expectations. Unlike last time I ran, 2 years ago, I was constantly fighting the sheer volume of people on the street, in some areas the supporting crowds became a nuisance by encroaching too far into the street. This year it felt like there were many more people walking than previously, and the courtesey of those runner was less than expected. I ended up walking and if I am going to walk will always try and walk at the side of the course. I would also recommend that the organizers make better effort to indicate where the water stops are ahead of the stops. In most cases it looked like people were not aware of them being there and so cut across the running line too fast Date of review: April 24, 2011

In short: A definite repeater In full: A challenging course with a great variety of surfaces, in the perfect world there would have been less road, but it did allow a chance to recover and prepare for the next phase. More black-currant jelly beans please ! Date of review: March 22, 2009

In short: Excellent response to attrocious weather In full: Despite attrocious conditions every effort was made to allow a race to take place, I was very implressed with the organisation that goes behind being able to adapt so well, and it is reflected in the whole series. Although the wether dampened the views it was still a memorable experience, 2 days later my shoes are still drying out ! Date of review: October 6, 2008
