In short: Really well organised race. In full: Really enjoyed this race. Several small hills, a couple of steeper ones(the one on 12 miles was a little cruel!)Good marshalling, perfectly positioned water stations, nice scenery, and whoever orgainsed the weather deserves a pint from us all. Sunny but not too hot. Perfect. I've done several races which have been going for years that are lagging far behind this inaugural race. Great job and thankyou for a great morning Date of review: March 11, 2012

In short: Great race but highly frustrating In full: This was my 6th GSR and I have to agree with many of the comments I have read. It definately seemed busier than I've ever known it. Does anybody know if the capacity was increased this year? It was mile 5 before I found any room to regularly run at the pace I wanted without having to slow down. I thought that from the middle of the orange wave it would have been less congested after the dockyard as this has been my experience in every other year. Another grumble is about the people who cause accidents by selfishly using i-pods and being oblivious to other runners around them. I saw a women take a tumble after being cut up by a guy who couldn't hear her approaching. No acknowledgement from him at all either. Disgusting. This is a special race and I don't want to just pick out the negatives. If I hadn't done this several times before I may not have noticed as much. The atmosphere is always fantastic and the people of Portsmouth support in force. I love the way the local kids are always out banging saucepans and cheering you past during the 8th mile when my legs tend to start feeling it a touch. I also like the bands on the course. Overall, it's still a great race but I hope the overcrowding which blighted so many of us this year can be sorted out for 2012 Date of review: October 31, 2011

In short: Really enjoyable race with perfect organisation In full: A very hot day dictated that I would be taking a slow trot round for this race and I enjoyed it all the more. Fantastic marshalls, perfectly placed and plentiful water stations, and welcome support from the locals when we passed through the several villages on route. Definately one to do again. In short: Fairly fast and flat course In full: A good race with definate p.b potential. A couple of very slight, brief, sections over the M5 are the only minor parts which are not flat. Good marshalls, nice momento, and great to meet an olympic gold medallist starter too. Date of review: November 4, 2009

In short: My favourite 10k In full: What a great race to do. My second time and hope to come back a third. Picturesque village, definate p.b potential, nerve calming entertainment from the starter, perfect organisation and marshalling, and due to the nature of the course, with the four loops around the village, good numbers of support. Thanks to everyone involved. Date of review: February 22, 2009

In short: Second year doing this race and better knowing when the tough sections are coming In full: A really enjoyable race to get you back into the rhythm if you have indulged at christmas. Found it easier this year, particularly as I knew it was fairly easy for the second part of the race. Great stewarding again. Many thanks Stratford AC Date of review: January 25, 2009

In short: Good course with a tough hill at the end. In full: Enjoy this course and chose to travel 3 hours to have another go at it. Beat last years time by 5 minutes so I've got to be happy with that. I agree with the previous comments about the goody bags being a little minimal but the t shirt is the best one I think I've had from a race. Only real complaint is one that happens all over. Why, when there are estimated finish time markers, do people start in the wrong section. I spent the first mile stop-starting because of this. It's not exclusive to this race and I praise the organisation otherwise. Special thanks to the runner who gave my car a little shove out of the mud on the way out. Date of review: December 2, 2008

In short: Hot! Shouldn't be finishing with severe dehydration though. In full: One particular issue spoiled the race for me and that was the fact that the water station at 7k had its water removed. On what was probably the hottest day of the year, I felt this was unacceptable. If there was a warning of this at the halfway point we could have kept our bottles from there. I appreciate that the weather can't be controlled but the runners need looking after. The marshall told me that the paramedics had moved them to the finish. Why? Were they bored and in need of extra work? I really don't want to take so long complaining because the Gala day with the family and everything else in the day was very good. The race itself was ok. A few small hills and a nice trek around the showgrounds and abbey, encouraging support from the crowds, and both a t-shirt and a medal for your troubles. Hopefully the teething problem with the water can be ironed out for next year if the race returns. Date of review: July 27, 2008
