In short: fantasticly organisation with that legendary Goody bag In full: Big Event organisers who charge ridiculous prices take note......this race is the one to follow!! A superb race, excellently organised and with a goody bag that includes a tech t-shirt, medal, yoghurts and chocolate bars, decent draw-string bag AND a free pint of a local ale. The course is very well marshalled with enthusiastic crowds on large sections through the town.... is it any wonder this race fills up so quick? Date of review: May 12, 2013

In short: wonderfullly different and friendly In full: we entered this quite late and were glad we did so. The organisation was supurb and the marshals very friendly. Absolutely great training run for the Grizzly in a few weeks. Hope the towel next year isn't pink though ;-)) Date of review: February 18, 2011

In short: supurb race- definitely worth getting out of bed for, on a cold winter's morning In full: An excellently organised and friendly race. We were warned about those hills, but it was still a bit of a shock when you got to what you thought was the top, only to turn the corner and see what was ahead a 4.5 miles. Marshals were fantastic and the Jaffa cakes/bananas/ energy drinks and Penguin Biscuits were very welcome ( besides what was in the goody bag as well. A great Technical T-shirt as well made this one of the best value races I have done this year. Will be back next year Date of review: December 13, 2009

In short: forget boring city marathons- this is the real McCoy In full: If I was only allowed to do one race a year, this would have to be the one. Absolutely stunning scenery, a course that climbs and drops so often that you could never get bored running, and the scenic beauty of it all. Competitors who think that the £30 entry fee is a little steep are probably missing the point. This is a marathon run to support Brathay's work with people less fortunate than ourselves, and £30 is peanuts for the ability to be able to run on such a superb course.
There were a few problems at the end regarding the parking but I am sure this will be resolved before next year's race which I am already looking forward to with baited breath Date of review: May 18, 2009

In short: A good fast race to start the year In full: I see that one or two people are claiming the course was long on their GPS's. In a course measurement article published last year- it was found that Gps results had an inaccuracy of between 0.08 and 2.2 %. The main reason that the average GPS can't be trusted is that the "blue line" shortest route is hardly ever followed by us mere mortal runners.--(I do use a Gps and have never got it to exactly the distance) Overall a good race. In short: a well organised, friendly and good value race In full: Travelled 50 odd miles to do this race and it was well worthwhile. The on the day price of £7 is good value for a well organised and friendly race, even if the first 2km was anything but flat (thought I was doing the snowdon marathon by mistake !) Look forward to next years race though Date of review: August 31, 2008

In short: never ever again In full: transported to race at 7.30 and had to wait over 3 hours till start. got rid of kit at 9.30 then waited for an hour in my slot "1hr.30-1ha.45"- did not dare move for fear of losing my place amongst the other Sardines! Then when the race started, it took over 8 minutes to get over the start line only for me to have to stop at 1/2 mile because of all the fun runners walking---what on earth were so many people doing walking before the 1st mile? The situation was the same throughout the race and misery compounded by one runner collapsing and dying in front of me at 11 miles. 50,000 runners is far too may in this race because of the limited space at the start- 3 starts as per the london marathon would be far better.Shall never ever bother nor want to do this fiasco again Date of review: September 19, 2005
