In short: Where are the marshalls along the dodgy routes? In full: I will continue to do this race. It's good fun, tough enough to brag about and the medals are nice. The scenery is truly breathtaking at times, but will somebody please sort the last two miles out! That wasteland at 11.5 to 12.7 miles is grotesque and off-putting. It would be so easy to get attacked or lost along those routes because the small signs and painted arrows are easy to miss. I should say that there was an extra marshall in this area this year, but surely there must be an alternative route? We had to run across an unmarshalled road too. Someone will get hurt unless the organisers address this and it would be a shame if the race was cancelled. Date of review: April 6, 2009

In short: I want my number back! In full: I like this race a lot and I will continue to do it, not least because I got another PB for the course this year! I just think it was stupid to ask us to hand in our race numbers before we got our t-shirts at the end. I'm sure it's to stop people leaving with more than one, but they could just have looked at our numbers instead. I actually like to keep my number after a run and I regret trading it in now. Next year they can keep the t-shirt and I'll have my number, because the system was utterly daft and whoever thought of it clearly doesn't understand the first thing about the spirit of these runs. In short: Water, water everywhere! In full: I really enjoyed this, in spite of suffering severe cramp from mile 17 to the end. The organisation was outstanding and the marshalling first class. They were even clearing up the water cups as the runners dropped them! The locals were really nice too, clapping us all along. The pedestrians even apologised in case they got in our way! 20 miles isn't for the faint-hearted, but this is worth signing up for just for the experience. Everyone got home eventually and they'll all feel like heroes tomorrow. Date of review: March 15, 2009

In short: And sandwiches too! In full: This just keeps getting better. A tremendous day out with the best bunch of runners you could get. Nice bit of banter from Andy O' on the megaphone and brilliantly organised (as ever) by Ron. The goody bag continues to astound and there were even FREE BUTTIES at the finish. Cheese and onion rules!!! No PB this year, but my training has been all over the place. A pity, because conditions were pretty good. Even the cross wind was tolerable. See you all next year (and in August for the WRW and October for the P to P). Date of review: February 22, 2009

2008 Hot Toddy Road Race

In short: We're always hurt by the ones we love! In full: How cold was it this morning? Well worth it though. This was my third Hot Toddy and the first time I've competed in it injury free, so I was delighted to take 2mins 29secs off my PB for the course. The uphill is still quite tough, but you can really let go on some fairly accommodating downhills in the last third and recoup lost time there. I absolutely adore this race and can only say good things about it. You don't need T-shirts or medals at the finish, a tangerine and the knowledge you've earned it is more than enough. As usual, thanks to Andy for the megaphone updates. Keep it up, young man! Date of review: December 29, 2008

In short: Where has everyone gone? In full: I've been doing this race for three years now and the numbers keep dropping! It's good that I get to move further up the list of finishers, but come on people - get those trainers on! A good race as ever, but a bit scary at the start when someone let their little girl wander across the runners' path (much swerving to get out of her way!). It's tough up and down those hilly paths, but I'll see you all there again next year. Date of review: October 27, 2008

In short: No pain, no gain... In full: I love racing along this stretch of coastline. Ron McAndrew is fantastic at what he does and I know all the runners would want to say thanks to him for getting this organised. Beyond that, what else is there to say? Sea, sun...no PB for me today, but that's my fault. I'd recommend this to anyone capable of the distance. It's a great day and the locals give you a really nice reception; there's someone cheering you on at every corner. I'll be back next year, but can't wait for this year's Pier to Pier in October. In short: Hills on a hot day! In full: My first time at this one (I'm usually on holiday). This is mainly an up and down course, but I couldn't seem to make up the time in the second half - in spite of the favourable gradient. A fairly good race though and I'd like to have a go at it on a cooler day. Date of review: August 24, 2008

In short: Too short, but a decent race! In full: All the moaning about this race is based around satellite timing devices. If they're all such purists about PBs they ought to remember the days when all you had was a trundle wheel and a stop watch. Too many road races are already disappearing from the calendar without launching a witch hunt against this one. It was fairly cheap and at least the organisers bothered to arrange it. Ignore the critics - I had a fun morning and say thanks to the officials. Date of review: August 24, 2008
