In short: Tough, hilly, beautiful. Loads of character. Just perfect In full: 28 miles of 6000ft of hills, running through some beautiful scenery. Very technical... Organisation was brilliant with all those little touches that make the event special...Camping, village green finish, cider and real ale, hogroast, even porta-showers. Perfect antidote to the countless soulless road marathons around which charge twice the amount and deliver a bleached corporate experience. Can'#t wait until next year! Date of review: July 1, 2013
In short: Friendly, muddy, quaint. In full: Well, that was one race that exceeded my expectations! Perfect weather (considering the storms the day before), small number of entries kept this nice and friendly, with loads of encouragement from the marshals. Pretty village location, with lovely cakes and drinks served at the end at the village hall; Great course with LOADS of mud, some of which I became personally acquainted with during a lapse of concentration at the back end of the race ;-) Ran a couple of miles with a chap that smashed through every puddle on the way. Decided this was a great idea, and finished with clean(ish) trainers and a broad grin on my face. Thankful for the downhill last mile. Can't recommend this highly enough, will definitely return... In short: The hills are alive..... In full: Tough, but beautiful. Stunning scenery is the reward for getting up the 3 peaks in the race. Truly multi terrain, I was thankful the weather was perfect, else I can imagine this to be an even harder slog. Great finish at the railway station. Very well organised, and stewarding was spot on. This race is the perfect antidote to all the corporate "tough" races that are appearing all too often. I will return...(I should be recovered by next year) Date of review: October 26, 2009
In short: Lovely friendly race with good scenery and fast finish In full: This race just worked for me. Arrived early so no traffic, parking or toilet queuing issues. Start needs improving as the first few miles are congested and tight so it's difficult to get passed and be passed by people. Good to go through the town twice, plenty of encouragement from crowd, and very good stewarding. Managed a PB (expected) and a negative split (not expected). Loved the fast finish (hill? what hill?). Will run again.
In short: Nice race, faster 2nd half, slightly chaotic start and finish, all for a good cause! In full: Lovely day but windy. Ample free parking at the hospital. Tight start, I was well back and could only walk to the starting line. Couple of small climbs in the first half, faster flatter second half, finish line had been moved ;-) Not many people out but still felt cheery.. BTW felt fast, PB by nearly 3 minutes!!
