In short: Best marathon i have done out of 24!!!!! In full: Sure the weather helps alot on the day and it was perfect running weather but even taking this away as the organisers have no control.
I will try to break it down into a few areas:
Course: Beautiful. I live local and ran in parks of Rivington i have never seen and i do quite a bit of running in Rivington. The course is hard but great parts you can open up and enjoy running. The hardest marathon i have done is also organised by the same people.
Organisation: As usual, ran like clockwork. You can tell his is put on by runners for runners!! Gels, drinks and jelly babies and harribo every few miles
Race Start and Finish: Superb. I have two young kids who played on the park and fair with their granddad while i ran
I have run in Paris, London, Barcelona marathons and plenty others and it may sound cheesy but you sometimes forget how lucky we are to have such beautiful scenery/views and places to run in. Sure you will be lucky to ever PB on a course like this (unless its your first marathon haha) but you will be hard pressed to find a better marathon. Defo a annual marathon from now on for me. Probably the best marathon if not very close.
In short: Get ready for the race of your life!! In full: When I entered this event in July I was expecting a hard and challenging 5 days of running and this didn't disappoint. I have never ran anything as hard!! With around 6000ft elevation gain per day. It consists of 8 laps each taking in the beautiful views of Rivington (although I would advise on taking them in on day 1 as by day 5 your brain will not allow it). The race is incredibly ran. For your money you get free hot and cold food before and after the race, free gels and drinks and one of best best medals everyday! You will meet some amazing people. The marshalls and helpers are FANTASTIC, helping every runner from front to back. I would SERIOUSLY put this on top of your next running event. Would I do it again....YES!! I cannot find enough words to praise this event.
In short: Fantasic Course. Three parks and a 3.5mile run down the dock front In full: I thought this was a great half. Pacers at the start for 7,8,9,10 and 11mile runners. First mile and half is a steady climb but then is pretty much flat for rest of run. Loved running through 3 seperate parks. Plenty of water and even a lucozade stand. The last 3.5 miles is run down the docks. Very good views. Only slight dissapointment was the start, i wanted to start near 7minute mile pacer but as it was so congested i could only get just in fromt of 8min miler. Would def do it again!!! In short: Challenging but very enjoyable race! In full: Love this 6.02 (so may Garmin told me) race. I have run it twicenow and had great times at each run. Tricky hill at around 4.2 miles. Great stewarding, sign posts etc. Saw Mile markers at 1,3,4 and 5. Not sure where the number 2 was? Good t-shirt at the end. Shame about the pub being closed for toilets but apart from that a very good race. Will def be back next year! Date of review: February 23, 2009
