In short: Dull scenery, no showers and the Hilton doesn't seem to want the race In full: A mega fast course, the wind isn't too much of a problem, either. You've just got to suck it up mentally, as those two laps are as dull as they come! Date of review: February 23, 2009
In short: Never mind the dual carriageway bypass - this is pure speed with no windd! In full: An accuarately measured 1mile and 5km race held once a month for only £3, what more could you want from a training race? Showers, club room, results on the line - friendly field with some great athletes and GB squad members from various disciplines making the trip from Loughborough, it's all good! In short: Dull run and laps without laps... In full: ...Running towards the finish and then turning away from it to come back down? Hmm. Running around the parks, then inside them, inspiring! No wonder some of the top guys got a DQ for 'skipping' a bit.
I understand that the organisers have had to contend with an ambivalent council and residents, but this race could be a whole lot better.
That said, the goody bag was one of the best I've ever received and a tee shirt and medal thrown in for under £20 is an absolute bargain. Date of review: March 3, 2008
In short: Great, if you like hills in your short runs In full: I do, so it was great. What wasn't so brilliant - doing it the day after the Half Ironman at Rutland Water (Vitruvian). I'd deffo do this again if the timing was right as the country roads out of the city and up the back were a welcome change for a 10km road race. Date of review: January 29, 2008
In short: Too many people... In full: ...For instance, Scooby Doo and Mr Blobby lining up for a sub70 minute? No, I don't think so. For the sheer amount of fun runners, this race would be good, if I positioned myself closer to the front, I would've probably had a much more enoyable race, as it was, I lined up for sub90 and paid the price for battling through the non-runners over the first 5km. The scenery is good, but nothing worth writing home about; you go round Wollaton Hall the wrong way to take it in. Date of review: January 29, 2008
In short: If the weather holds out, you might too... In full: ...I was paying it did, it never. Three laps of suburbia with a 4(ish) mile semi-country lane route isn't the most conducive to boredom offsetting. Yet, saying that, I definitely do it again as it's under £20 and the facilities were great, as were the extremely enthusiastic marshalls. Date of review: January 29, 2008
