In short: Prepare for the hills. What goes up must come down!! In full: My 2nd Badger half, and tougher than I remember from last year!! I was fitter then which is probably why. The race is fantastic, loved it all the way up and back down ;-) Organisation was really good, just one more marshal towards the end would have been good as a few people seemed to miss the entrance to the pathway. But in truth that was the most minor of grips in an otherwise flawless race (cant believe I have even bothered to type about the that small negative).
Do this race next year, its fantastice!! Date of review: September 5, 2010
In short: Great race, my third visit to the Bog of Doom!! In full: I decided to go for it this time around and ran my fastest Hellrunner. I think I should have trained a little more for the hills but I still managed to knock 10 mins of my time from last year!! Was it shorter this year? Date of review: November 15, 2009
In short: A decent Sunday morning blast around Fleet In full: Being a local club runner the course is only a slight variation on our handicap night route. The race was well organised and the slight inclines do take their toll, well atleast they did on me!! I think its a decent race thats worth doing, a good race for just blasting around as fast as able.
I also supplied the lead car for the race, just a shame I didnt run fast enough to keep up with it!!
In short: Superb marathon to pop my marathon cherry :-) In full: I was on the bus that couldnt make it up the hill, but managed to thumb a lift with some random Austrian runners who drove past!! BIG thanks for the lift guys, seems I still owe you a beer!!
Besides the bus issues it was a wicked race.
The hills were a constant part of the race, though never a real problem if you do any sort of hill work in training.
The post race meal with live music rounded it off for me 100%. I will be back to tangle again with Nessie in a few years I am sure.
In short: Dont be fooled the hills are killer!! BUT, this has serious favourite race potential In full: My wife and I wanted to do this race as a pre Loch Ness Marahon race because of the hills to test how our traing is going. The race has fantastic, every marshal was enthusiastic, clapping and cheering. I loved the feeling this race gave me as it was Very well organised, superb goody bag, T-shirt, socks and even a beer!! The hills were MUCH harder than I expected but I love a good hill so I didnt mind.
I will be back next year...... Date of review: September 6, 2009
In short: My first Half, amazing crowds and atmosphere inspiring!! In full: I live in Fleet and loved walking to the event (10 mins). This was the race that got me into running when I spectated 2 years ago, I am now pleased to say that I have participated and achieved a respectable time of 1:36. I was blown away by the crowds of locals that clapped and wooped all the way around!!! Organisation seemed butter smooth and there were by far the most drink stations I have seen in a single race, with different types of drinks on offer.
A huge thanks to the residents of Fleet and the marshalls for inspiring me for 13.1 miles.
In short: Fab way to kick my running year off!! Loved it, even the mud made me grin. In full: I know some people will be unhappy with the route change and the puddles...mud...etc but I loved it!! The change in route was well communicated and the organisation superb.
My wife loved the single sex toilets and we both were seriously impressed at being able to print off our times and race position straight after crossing the line!!
Big thanks to the organisers from two very happy runners :-)
See you next year. Date of review: January 25, 2009
In short: Coldest race I have ever done!! Finished with Ice on my head! In full: Great fun, really good course and seriously enjoyable! I am glad I did the Sunday race as the ice and frozen water made it a real challenge. Not half as tough as Hellrunner but it was a different race altogether, more water stretches but shallower and a lot less hills... Great fun and one for the diary. Date of review: December 7, 2008
In short: Loved it!! My 2nd Hell run and there will be a third...... In full: This is my favourite race of the year and it didnt let me down in any way this time around!! The car parking issues werent anything like last years nightmare. (though we did get there early this time around)
Big up the Smirfs!!
Great crowds, great organisation, tested me fully and made me grin all the way round and required a bath then a shower to remove the woods from my skin!!
I will be back ;-) Date of review: November 16, 2008
