In short: Could be improved In full: I preferred the new start and finish location and so did the supporters who came with us.
I liked the idea of the running fesitval and I opted for the 10k and my partner the 1/2.
It seemed crazy for me to start only a few minutes ahead. There wasn't much room and I'd agree with the comment from another reviewer that it the organisation for starting times did not suit the 10k runners or the 1/2 marathoners. I faced a similar problem when I encountered 5k participants near a hill up to the finish. But on the positive side I ran with my other half as he over took me for about 50m, and we both got pbs.
Liked: Getting a pb, parking was easy and start location had places to eat and drink for supporters. Plenty of toilets at start.
Disliked: Organisation of the starts and locations of different races, the course didn't really inspire me, I didn't think it was particularly 'flat and fast'. My partner who did the half marathon said that the signs on the course were not always clear although I didn't have any problems.
In short: Loved the PB and the text time, a few negatives too- but didn't spoil what was a good racee In full: I took a good few minutes off my pb so I'm overall very pleased I did this race. It was busy and I started near the back (due to the portaloo situation) but there was enough room that with a bit of weaving I managed to find my stride.
Course was ok, main attraction is the PB potential rather than the scenery.
Liked the T-shirt and the drinks at the end. It was a bit of a pain trying to take my chip off, find place to put my chip while balancing my water and lucozade and t-shirt in my hands (trying not to get the t-shirt wet) in the wind and rain. This issue re the chip bins and the toilets at the start would be the two things I would change.
My favourite thing was the text at the end, not only did I get confirmation of my time but my partner had seen my time online. I would do this race again. Date of review: November 24, 2009
In short: Better than last year In full: I much preferred the course this year (except the final hill!). Loved running under Hillsborough's South stand and even though the view on the dual carriage way wasn't great I didn't think it mattered as I spent my time watching the faster people on their way back. True there weren't as many supporters as I would have expected but I thought there was a good atmosphere amongst the runners.
I would however be far more likely to do this race year after year if it cost under 20 pounds. Date of review: September 8, 2008
In short: Fantastic race, great organisation! In full: This race was very well organised with a good route. The goody bag was the best ever and the marshalls were very encouraging.
It was my first half so I aimed just to get round but people trying to get a PB should like this race. My partner managed to shave 6 mins of his PB to finish in 1:27:46, he was very grateful to the 1:30 pacers who helped him improve his time.
I want to do this again next year! Date of review: November 19, 2007
In short: Well organised on the day, with some fairly challenging inclines In full: Glad I did this race and I hope it grows. On the day organisation was good. Starting waves worked well, fast friends had no problem and I had fun right at the back. I really enjoyed being able to watch the elites. Thought it was quite challenging with the inclines but all of us who took part got pbs. I did not enjoy the final 400m. Date of review: September 11, 2007
