In short: So so so so so so so so so very hot !!!
In full: I wanted (and expected) a time of 3hrs 45 for my first marathon and got 4hrs 7 mins which I wasnt too disappointed with considering the temperatures.

My face is burnt to a cinder (no suncream as it was thick grey clouds at the start and the weather forecast was 'drizzle') and my legs are sore. It would have been brill if it had been cooler, as the course is lovely and downhill for a long time and then remains flat. Great course.

Moan time :- What was the score with the shuttle buses at the end? After 26 miles, the last thing you want to be doing is walking for miles to catch a bus!!

Summary :- Medal and t-shirt great, support superb, weather hot, Grassmarket great, legs sore!

In short: Great Race, Baggage truck rubbish!!
In full: I dont want to moan but I arrived at the start line half hour before the race started to find that the last luggae truck had gone! I was gutted and had to carry my rucksack round, which cut me to bits! Never mind.

Thoroughly enjoyed the race, route is good and while hilly, it wasnt 'out of order' hills. It was warm without being scorching and made for a pleasant day out.

The drinks stations were spot on and the finish lane was really really good. Marshalls did their best and the police were helpful when asked.

All in all it was a great day out and Id deffo do it again. I would take the family next time.

In short: Hilly, hot and rural
In full: This was my first 20 miler, my longest distance to date, after 10 half marathons, in preperation for the Edinburgh Marathon (aaaaghhhh scared!!) I enjoyed it.

There was a hill about 9 miles? that was an absolute choker! it was really tough, and it didnt seem to get any less hilly for a fair few miles and with the weather being particularly good ...... or bad depending on how you look at it, it was hard!

However, the marshalls were superb, organisation was great without any frills, and the drink stops were plentiful. Its a funny race as I didnt really set any targets or have any real target as its a 20miler. Brill though and its a must as a build up to any marathon you plan to do.

In short: Very hilly for first 6 miles!
In full: The first half of this race was tough, very tough. One particular hill after about 4 miles was ridiculous really, especially if you're new to half marathons. It could well put you off. Crowds were good, goody bag naff but t-shirt was one of the best.

In short: Well organised ........ tough hills at the end though!
In full: I personally had a tough run here today, but could still appreciate how well this race was organised, how nice the scenery was and what a great race it really was.

Id definately recommend this race to anyone.

In short: Nice wide track!
In full: Good race got a PB of 1:38, well pleased. Not tripping over anybody throughout the entire race.

Weather was horrendous, windy, hail and cold, but it was do-able and I enjoyed the challenge. I can feel it today though!

Goody bag at the end was a bit naff, but its usually just stuff I don't want anyway and the socks were pretty good. Has the potential to be a very very good race this.

In short: Sooooooooo much better than last year!!
In full: Last years (2007) half Marathon got a bit of a slating from certain people but, as it was my first one, I thought it was great. However this years was far far better.

Water stations were excellent and never struggled to break my stride to get a drink. Bottles aswell. Brill.

Mile markers - superb, every mile (as you would expect but werent there last year) easy to keep track of and the songs were a good distraction.

T-shirt - Nice, mainly nice to get one. I was gutted I never had one last year.

Course - far better than last year. I was dreading that monotonous hill towards the end of last years course and was made up it was missing!!

Bertolli crackers selection ? Ha, what was all that about?? Nice though!

All in all the organisers should give themselves a big, in fact a huge, pat on the back. It was excellent from start until finish and very very well arranged. well done Liverpool!!1

In short: Great!!
In full: A fantastically organised run. Sheffield, you should be very very proud of yourselves. The crowd were awesome, the stadium is/was fantastic, the weather gorgeous. Everything was spot on from start to finish.

The water stations were very frequent and very plentiful. Sponges, energy drink at the end, clear mile markers, nice t shirt, great certificate, easy parking. A truly great half marathon. Ok the scenery aint great but its a steady test.

WELL DONE SHEFFIELD!!!!!

In short: Great race
In full: I know this race got a lot of stick for the organisation, but I really enjoyed it. It was my first half marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed the race, the scenery and everything about it.

I didnt get any water at the final station and the lack of a T-shirt was heartbreaking, but we made do and I would run it next year.

Great weather too!

In short: Prepare properly!!
In full: Whats the best way to prepare for Hellrunner?? Id say big bowl of Pasta and an early night the night before??

What did I do?? Went to a concert in Manchester and had 7 pints and a big bag of Cheese & Onion crisps, got in at 2.30am!!

I hated every minute of it. I almost cried at one point, especially when I got to where I thought was the end and it sent us back up the hill!!!

Im sure it was great fun if you prepared properly, but me? I hated it. It was tougher than Mike Tyson and Roy Keanes lovechild.

A proper challenge!
