In short: The hardest thing I have ever done
In full: I've read and agree with many many of the positive comments of yesterday's event. The marshals were wonderful: I tried to thank each one and I hope they heard through the wind and rain. The Mars bars at the water stations were a nice surprise and the breakfast and the indoor changing area at the end were very welcome. What I think needs to be added is just how hard it was....I have run several events that are thought to be testing, including Beachy Head and the Grizzly so I felt reasonably confident that I could cope with the Sting despite the vile weather. However, this tricky course was made even more punishing in those conditions: the specially slippery mud slowed us even on the descents and we were out there a long time in the combination of biting wind and rain so I was pushed to my absolute limit and chilled to the core..... I feel genuinely proud of surviving that test but it is not to be undertaken lightly!

In short: Wonderful
In full: Fab run... if you like running in glorious countryside this is for you. We were a bit scared at the beginning when we were given copious notes and instructions along with a map that we might get lost... but the route was (mostly) well signposted and we soon just relaxed and enjoyed the views. And there were many of those...it was so quiet in parts that we startled a deer into our path. Checkpoints always offered cheerful encouragement, water or squash and at some we also got fresh fruit, Mars bars, cake, jelly babies or custard creams. Just be prepared to do a little more than the distance: my Garmin said we did 27 miles.

In short: Well done to the organisers
In full: Lots of folk here in preparation for the spring marathons so it gives the air a certain buzz of excitement and trepidation in equal parts. The organisation at the start, the end and everywhere inbetween was excellent. Thanks go to the friendly marshals and RRR for an excellent event

In short: Wonderful
In full: My second Beast and it did not disappoint. Awesome scenery, friendly atmosphere, frequent water stations and a special commemorative T-shirt. The route was very well signed and/or marshaled throughout. My special thanks to the guys at the top of each set of steps who were unflagging in their support just when my energy WAS flagging. I also really appreciated the fabulous welcome committee at the finish: I could hear them as I approached the end and it really helped those last few meters.

In short: Well organised race to support a good cause
In full: The race was well marshalled and signed. The warmth of the support at the end was welcome because there are a few sections in this race that undulate and that made it harder than I was expecting. I do prefer off road runs and so was annoyed at the cars on some of the route but much of it was in quiet roads away from major traffic. Handy to have the hospital nearby.....

In short: Has anyone mentioned the mud?
In full: The last turbo x I did was in May. November weather made the whole experience significantly harder but still just as much fun. This course has it all: I particularly enjoyed sliding down hills on my bottom into the next bit of swamp. Getting the mud out of my kit will be a another challenge :)

In short: Rain didn't dampen our spirits
In full: I love this race: running through the deciduous forests in autumn is just outstanding even when it is/has been lashing down with rain continuously, giving you huge puddles to splash through. The marshals were everywhere and always, always unflagging in their support despite the weather they had to put up with too. The long sleeved T shirt is far more welcome than a medal and has become my third but will not be my last. My only criticism would be that it would be nice to have a free cereal bar or chocolate bar for finishers after 13 miles of hills: the cost of tea and cookies from the cafe was steep, even at bargain rates operating when I finished

In short: Still aching
In full: Thank you marshals: how wonderful you are for showing us the way in the fog, feeding us bananas, Mars bars and hot soup, and most of all, smiling and cheering us and clapping despite the miserable weather.

In short: First time but it won't be the last: fantastic race :D
In full: I was REALLY scared of this one: partly a result of reviews that mentioned the challenge of the steps and partly as a result of feeling inadequately prepared after being away on holiday (as discussed with fellow runners near the start of the first gentle incline: a very friendly father and son duo). However, I can say that I was genuinely upset when a marshal told me I only had 4 miles to go: I was enjoying it so much. The scenery was spectacular, the weather perfect, the marshals excellent. I might easily have been last (though I wasn't), it just didn't matter: for me the run wasn't that kind of event. Food at "the Greyhound" afterwards also recommended. So if you're thinking of this one, have a go! :D

In short: Mud got everywhere..........
In full: On a really hot day, this offered wonderful contrasts of dry tracks winding up and down hills followed by multiple long stretches of shady valleys of deep mud and watery bogs. When I was in up to my neck at one point, I found myself wondering if breast stroke would be faster.....
Goody bag was the best I have ever had and the technical T shirt is far better than a medal. Just fabulous :D
