In short: Mud, Hills & lots of smiles In full: A great event and a must do for me each year. This year's race was held on very muddy terrain which definitiely slowed me down but was great fun. The galump down the hill from the windmill, across the field, hay bails was seriously soft. Even in innocuous looking field you would sink into the ground above your ankles. A great event and really fun to run.
The farm tanker water spray was definitely required this year to wash all the mud off before returning to the car. Date of review: February 28, 2013
In short: Brilliant event around the streets of Port Sunlight In full: Very well organized event, one of the best I have been to. The course is 2 laps of a 5k course held within the village. The route was quite convoluted, which made it great for spectators. The course was flat and generally fast with only one really sharp hairpin. Well worth doing and in the calendar for next year already. Date of review: May 22, 2012
In short: Well organised event. Last 5 miles tough with little support In full: Overall a good event for a first marathon and beat my GFA time so definitely happy. Organisation was pretty good overall. Marshall's did their job well. A special mention for the guy at the drinks station by the Pleasure Beach who after I missed the cup chased me down the road to make sure I had a personal delivery. Thanks it made me feel great.
Course is generally flat but the rolling slight hills north of the Hilton became serious mountains on the second lap. The last 5 miles you are out on your own with virtually no support, just dog walkers and bikes. This made it tough, but then this is when you feel most vulnerable.
A good course overall and would do it again, although not next year after that GFA time. Date of review: April 13, 2010
In short: Delay at start but overall well organised. A Great day In full: Full field of 5,500. This I think contributed to a delayed start due to traffic congestion. Once underway the route was good and fast, after you had run up Upper Parliment Street. Very scenic through the parks with good support all the way round. Last 3 miles into a stiffening breeze was tough.
Overall a significant improvement over the year before. Managed a PB so very happy. Date of review: March 31, 2010
In short: Left waiting for 10 minutes for the start, icy and dangerous underfoot and then poor marshalling lead to leaders going off course. In full: The conditions were so icy it was dubious as to whether this event was safe to run. Ice around the course made it a skating rink in places. This was particularly bad on a downhill section where I took a tumble dispite being at a virtual stand still. The absence of a marshall at a particular junction lead to the leaders going off course. After that it was just a matter of finishing rather than a time. It has great potential but this event should most probably have been cancelled as there was a real risk of people getting injured. In short: Good fast route. Km markers all over the place In full: Good fast course and managed a pb. Route was pretty flat weaving in and around Sefton Park. Only gripe were the km markers which were in correctly placed. Date of review: October 5, 2009
In short: Well organised race through country lanes mainly flat with one short hill In full: An excellent event. Well organised in a low key way. Start and finish area well organised and good marshalling over the whole course. The course was generally fast and flat with only a short uphill burst to the finish which you did 3 times on the one small lap and two big lap circuit. Competitive field as it was the Cheshire county championships. A bottle of 'Jogger's Tipple' beer at the end was a nice momento.
Also free high quality photos of the event are available from http://www.racephotos.org.uk/ Bryan Dale will send you free high quality images for you to print yourself. An excellent service and also some of the best snaps I have seen.
Overall an excellent event and will aim to do it again next year. Date of review: August 19, 2009
In short: Well organised event with a great scenic route. Warm in the afternoon sun. In full: Great event which is very well organized, definitely the best I have been to. Afternoon start makes it a warm event but there are plenty of drinks stations and the run through showers were a god send. Manged a PB despite dying over the last 3 miles.
Would definitely do it again. Date of review: June 22, 2009
