In short: Cracking way to spend a saturday evening In full: It really is a lovely course, long drags up hills aren't for everyone but I like getting my teeth into them. The views from the top of the first climb in particular are worth the fairly brutal start.
Only minor thing was as I'd lost sight of the guy in front around mile 10 I had to bark at a marshall about which way to go as he was too busy with a pint in his hand, admittedly my frustration may have been with the pint in his hand.
I'll be back no doubt at some point, too good a use of a Saturday evening in the summer :) Date of review: June 16, 2013
In short: Beautiful marathon if a tad expensive In full: Really enjoyed this mornings run at the stratford marathon. Great course in lovely spring sunshine with a couple of hills thrown in for good measure. If I could fault it then it'd have to be on value for money, just a medal wasn't great. Even if they'd just given us a bit of cake or chocolate...
Saying that I won't hesitate from doing it again if the weather is as nice as it was today. Date of review: April 28, 2013
In short: Cold but brrrriliant little cheap race In full: Does exactly what it says on the tin, great training race for the big spring marathons. I really enjoyed the multi lap aspect of the course too. Only very very minor gripe is that some fellow runners seemed a little oblivious to other runners who were lapping them. Though I guess that is a sign of a good beginners race as well as a fast one :)
Special thanks to all the marshalls for being out in the cold for hours for us all today! Date of review: March 10, 2013
In short: What a fantastic event! In full: As someone that has been running and racing nearly 6 years now this race has to be one of the best.
Everything other races do 'okay' was done perfectly, the support, the motivational phrases on each km marker, the scenary, the hills that were kind enough to not hide a second hill at the top. Just brilliant.
Definitely one to recommend! Date of review: February 17, 2013
In short: Great event - lovely course and an uphill finish! In full: I thoroughly enjoyed the race today. Very good fun and i second anyone who thinks that it is good training for London. The hills were a good test too.
Great goody bags n stuff too :) just a very very nice morning out. Me time weren't bad either hehe Date of review: March 18, 2012
In short: Pleasant half marathon. In full: Having done the full a couple of years ago I decided to have a shot at completing the half this year. The event had grown a bit in those two years and was a really nice run even if there were very very minor bottlenecks at the start as people started too far forward or too far back.
The sections through the parks are brilliant and coming back through High Cross with the marching band echoing from ahead was very cool. The final hill did drag again but seeing as i love a nice incline i won't moan n was able to pick a couple of places up.
Does beat Nottingham for value comfortable but hasn't quite got the atmosphere of that one.
Lovely day out though and I am sure that i'll be back doing one or the other in the future. Date of review: October 9, 2011
In short: First half - awesome and the second half - windy n flat In full: In my four years running this was the biggest race that i'd done. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the race and the support at times around the university was simply superb.
The second half of the race was flater but the remnants of hurricane katia made sure that the final five miles were slower cos of it.
I can't fault the organisation of the race. The way that the different coloured numbers represented the start times meant a lot less of the bottle necks that ive experienced at smaller races.
Great race (if a tad pricy) and i may well be back to give the half rather than the full a good go. Date of review: September 11, 2011
