In short: Apart from the hugh car parking problems pretty well organised In full: Overall an enjoyable race. Though I have to say that the car parking fiasco really annoyed me. We all queued up for some time to be told to go and park else, and the lady directing us didn’t have a clue where it actually was and sent us in the wrong direction. Luckily we got there pretty early so it wasn’t that much of an issue to us. I wouldn’t have liked to have arrived much later though. Not sure if I'm going to do it again as it was just much too hot. Certainly not PB potential. I agree with the earlier comment starting earlier would be much better. Also more showers would have been a good idea. There were however lots and lots of water stations which was great. Pity they had a problem with the isotonic drinks that would have been helpful. I'm glad they put this on the website so we knew in advance. Seemed to be a lot more runners this year and so crowding was a problem during the race. Date of review: June 14, 2009
In short: Good for marathon training though as a slow runner, marshalls could have stayed to the end In full: I am training for my first marathon and this distance was the farthest I have done by nearly 3 miles. Having laps made it much easier than just one lap as you knew what to expect and it didn’t seem so long after all. There was excellent support from the Marshalls and the goody bag was good a medal and a T-shirt though I would have liked a smaller size! The surface wasn’t good and several runners had injuries due to this. The St John Ambulance staff seemed quite busy.
As mentioned in other feedback – I too would like to thank the lady at the bottom of the hill at mile 4, 9, 14 and her supporters of local children – though she was missing when I went on mile 19 too. Some of the children were still there.
Only 3 toilets and they weren’t all working when I finished due to over-use. Can you get some more porto-loos for next year please? Date of review: March 20, 2009
In short: Bit too tight at the front - could do with a wider starting place. Didn't like meeting up with the front runners coming head on. The marshall were gvery good. Enjoyable run. Date of review: January 18, 2009
In short: Gutted by the lack of organisation and some uninterested marshalls In full: I was gutted and angry that incorrect information given out over the tannoy saying that the race was not going to start for another 15 minutes when in fact it did start less than 5 minutes later. As a result of this quite a few runners including my hubby (who finished 15th last year) went back into the club house to wait. I was also surprised about the lack of information sent out with the race numbers. No map, no car parking directions and not even the start time was provided. Luckily my hubby remembered were we had parked last year so we found it. On the race though some Marshall's were helpful, others didn't have a clue how to look after the runners or even direct them where to go. Runners were not protected from traffic making it dangerous. Also some runners ended up missing the loop through town unintentionally as the marshalls did not show them where they should go or correct them when they went wrong. Such a shame as my hubby and I both enjoyed last years race and were looking forward to the challenge despite the rain.
In short: My first half marathon - very good - only fault the pre race massage didn't exist though it was advertised in the pre-race info pack. In full: My first half marathon - lots of water stations though - not much help having to take drinks from the table - much nicer when handed to you. The pre-race massage didn't exist even though it was advertised in the race info pack. Apart from that - brilliant!! Especially the 'smily' marshalls. I think they were about 3 to 4 miles also on the way home. Thanks - really kept me going!! Date of review: June 8, 2008
In short: What let it down was the lack of organisation at the end. In full: It was very hot and I staggered in dying for some water - but couldn't find any. The water table was hidden behind the t-shirt table and an extremely long queue for t-shirts. Also there were no medals left. I was No. 177 and so should have received one on the day. I was not impressed. Date of review: May 5, 2008
