In short: Some b*gger keeps putting hills here! In full: This was my first marathon and I have to say it was wonderful. Prior disparaging comments about race management must have been specific to the year. Everything was wonderfully organised with excellent marshals, best refreshment spacing and best refreshment tables I've experienced to date and a great atmosphere. Incredible scenery, but beware the hills!!!! Date of review: May 21, 2008

In short: Worth It For The Goody Bag Alone :) In full: This was an odd race. The scenery was urban, but the route was a great mix of flatness, reasonably long hills and a few good slopes to fly down. The marshalls were helpful and friendly, but the traffic was plentiful and smoggy. In all it had a great atmosphere and despite the weather it was a lot of fun. This is definately a race for runners and had a strong club presence. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners due to the small numbers and the challenging hills. Date of review: December 9, 2007

In short: Nice enough, but traffic ever present. In full: Great people to run with, but to be fair all of us runners are generally a good crowd. I felt that there was always a possibility of traffic encroachment, which whilst straightforward to ignore, it would be better if you didn't have to consider it at all. Reasonably hilly and nicely spaced water stations. Great support from marshalls and the locals. Fab sweets at the end. After 10 miles there's a HORRENDOUS narrow path, which is a real bummer as it forces you to run in single file. All in all more enjoyable than the Great North Run, due to reasonable runner numbers and a slightly less 'fun runner' crowd. Date of review: September 30, 2007
