In short: loved it. excellent organisation - none of the teething problems you often get with inaugural races. marshalls friendly and knowledgeable. would recommend it and will certainly be back next year - a great route Date of review: February 14, 2011
In short: superb In full: amazing organisation - and off road races are difficult. and a full, half and relay all together could be a mess but worked brilliantly. as did bus and baggage transfers, well done to the organisers Date of review: October 5, 2009
In short: a well-organised race with a carefully chosen course In full: a very enjoyable race and one i would recommend.
the marshalling was second to none - in some places i wondered if there were marshalls marshalling the marshalls!
there was one particularly tricky junction in one village and the marshalls were doing a fantastic job controlling the traffic, which was probably heavier than usual due to the glorious weather.
speaking of which, i'm so glad there were so many water and sponge stations - they were needed.
i thought the course was well thought out and although it was undulating, particularly in the second half, it could have been a lot hillier. my other half was cycling between points to support and said he hit some serious hills that the course avoided.
as is often the case a few more loos and car parking spaces would have been nice. although i suspect the good weather brought a bigger turnout than usual.
anyway, all in all and excellent day and congratulations to all involved. Date of review: September 22, 2008
In short: very well organised - thoroughly enjoyed it. In full: i thought this race was great even tho the hills were more than i had thought - i've just never noticed them as i've driven the roads on holiday!! and i really enjoy an evening start.
the marshalling was excellent - i've marshalled on roads with traffic and it's not easy - so well done to all!
i thought the start worked really well being walked forwards - i don't think the organisers can be held responsible for the people who start too far forward, there will always be numpties that do that.
this one is definitely on my list of races to do again. and i'll be ready for those hills next time :-) Date of review: September 2, 2008
In short: poor signs and a marshall sending people the wrong way In full: did the 20k, signs were brilliant until we split from the 30k race at 15k, then it was hopeless. then when i should have been about half a mile from home i was sent off in the wrong direction by a water station marshall and ended up wandering round the centre of salisbury on my own having no idea how to get back to race hq. not good. it's a shame as the atmosphere at the hq was lovely - i enjoy chilled off road races. and people work very hard to put this event on, but perhaps less races would be sensible. In short: don't think it's quite the fast 10k it's hyped to be, but was very well organised In full: there were a few 'chicanes' which do slow you down and break the rhythm and can cause bottlenecks, but they were well marshalled.
there was a gravel path which seemed odd on a road race, and definitely slows you down.
otherwise, excellent organisation and a good atmosphere. Date of review: June 29, 2008
