In short: Nice course, good support In full: This is one of the best I have done in the UK. Organisation was good. Printing your name on your number was an excellent idea. Spectators shouting encouragement using your name helps when it is getting hard. The support was very good and the marshals were very encouraging as well. It probably helped with the hot weather but there were loads of people cheering the runners on. There water stop were good but I have seen others say that it ran out. Probably could do with smaller energy drinks because it looked like most had just had a couple of sips out of them and then they were discarded. Using the stadium was great because it had good toilet facilities so no big queues beforehand and a great place to finish. Only bit to improve would be sign-post the industrial estate parking as I had to guess where to go and I'm not sure I should have parked where I did as I just followed other runners. In short: Well organised but no medal In full: Good Points Nice to be able to park free at the stadium. Drinks stations well manned. Water in bottles, much better than trying to drink from a cup whilst running. Well marshalled. Just had to ask which way to go at last turn.
Could do better A medal - After I've run 26.2 miles it's rewarding to get a medal and my family like to see them. Also the medals are a reminder of the races I've done. New Forest Heartbreaker was the same price and they gave medals. Food - Banana or a cereal bar.
Potential improvements Consider taking some of the route into the city. 26.2 miles of country lanes wasn't very interesting. Investigate finishing in the stadium. Reading Half Marathon finishes in the football stadium and it makes the event more special for the runners ans spectators. Date of review: April 16, 2013
In short: Scenic location, testing hills and friendly. In full: The New Forest is a great location for a race. A few testing hills so not a race for a PB. Having the use of the facilities at holiday park was great particularly as it was so cold. Welcome hot soup at the finish. Good spirit, everyone was friendly and encouraging. Would be nice to have the year on the medal. Date of review: February 25, 2013
In short: Mud Glorious Mud In full: Well organised, good facilities and support. Was very muddy. Not surprising with the amount of rain we've had recently! Quite a lot of narrow paths where you can't pass. Better goody bag at Luton, similar entry fee. Date of review: December 23, 2012
In short: More hilly than expected but good marshals and medal In full: Quite a testing race as was more hilly than I expected. Marshals were were very encouraging but not many spectators. Was confused over when to start my watch because as we had chip timing was waiting to run over the start mat but there wasn't one. A couple of narrow paths where you couldn't pass other runners. Good quality medal and beenie hat. Date of review: November 19, 2012
