In short: Wonderful race, will definately be back....every year! In full: Terrific race, I didn’t win it but I had the honour of starting last....18 minutes late actually having gotten myself lost on the way! So I really enjoyed the challenge of hunting down the pack and of course the grinding 2 mile hill to climb at the 3 mile mark which climbs about 1200 feet...phew...so good I did it twice as this is a 2 lap course. What followed the hill was the reward of the most thrilling downhill run I have ever enjoyed on a run...I felt like I was flying through the trees and rough pathways...more like a ’sort of‘ controlled fall really...fantastic! The scenery along the River Wye and the whole route was wonderful and the marshals were great, giving cheerful encouragement whenever I passed them. As mentioned on the website, the whole event and the start/finish area really did convey the village fete feeling that they were looking to achieve. In conclusion, this is a lovely, friendly event with a real variety of flat/challenging uphill and breakneck downhill running all on a beautiful off road course with superb organisation and friendly marshals...well done to all those serving the food and drinks afterwards too...Great to have taken part (eventually) in the first ever running of this race...I will definitely be back - year after year, well done...this race is the most enjoyable one I’ve ever run...gave me a huge buzz! In short: Lovely off road race In full: I really enjoyed this run...maybe that’s because I’m a valley’s boy who’s been excilled to Swansea for the last 20 years! Seeing the pit head lifts from the top of the ascent gave me a real surge of nostalgic pride and I managed to make a PB of 80mins. I personally thought that the marshal’s were great but I did witness the problem that a few of the runners had with the mis-direction...I was lucky to be slow enough to be with the pack I suppose! The scenery was uplifting, the variety of surface made it interesting and the big hill was a good challenge right in the middle of the run...nice running t-shirt too. Looking forward to competing next year, well done to the organisers! Date of review: February 20, 2011

In short: Great challenge, superb scenery In full: Loved this race, Friendly, small field/low key (why?), stunning scenery, varied terrain and I got a PB even with the hills so I had a great time! Would have preferred a t-shirt to the hat but that’s no big problem...even enjoyed the damp weather...will definitely be back next year...well done the organisers! Date of review: February 14, 2011

In short: Lovely race, friendly, well marshaled and carribean weather! In full: I don’t know what the poster wants when he says that the scenery wasn’t very glorious...herds of wilderbeast majestically roaming maybe? It looked pretty spectacular from where I was running especially looking back up the Loch as we were about to leave it behind...even the tree lined roads mentioned were uplifting to me...as for the run itself there were a few big hills to contend with but the scenery and friendliness of the organisers and those who turned out to watch made it feel a lot more bearable. There was a mix up at the start with the buses but that meant I had a good laugh getting to know some fellow runners sat around me which was good fun...our bus even broke down a few times on route which meant we were the last ones in! Overall a superb race, wonderful goody bag and a personal best of 4hrs26mins as well...hurrah! I will probably be making the trip again one day. Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: Nice, friendly, fast 10k with stadium finish In full: Good race, perfect weather and I enjoyed the early start - a really good long gently downhill stretch to the finish (and a spiralling footbridge right near the end!). Only gripe was the lack of kilometer markers...I only saw 4, 5 & 8k ones...well organised and marshalled though and will definitely be lining up for next years event as I just managed a PB of 57.2mins! In short: The water errors made a very hot day much more difficult In full: This has great potential to be a great race but the water station being empty on the first stop in particular really rocked the confidence and contributed to me getting a really bad cramp on mile 9. This made for a very taxing last 17 miles. There was a seemingly huge gap between water stations before and after the turnaround point which I think was unforgivable as this seemed like one of the toughest parts of the route. The support from the locals was uplifting though and the people in general on my weekend were extremely welcoming. On another note, I wish there were more facilities for the spectators at the finish as there were very few seats for those who could not get into the stands and only a couple of vans to cater for them. I ran the Warsaw marathon last year and they had a mini village at the finish which made my wife’s experience far more pleasurable. The medal and t-shirt were excellent however and I loved Edinburgh as a city. Date of review: June 3, 2009

In short: Rain, hail, wind, sandstorms and sun! In full: Really enjoyable race, marshals deserve medals too...lovely, flat course...it would be interesting to run it in calm conditions though to see how it effects my time (I’m no elitist...2hrs26mins). I’ve never run this course in anything other than high winds but this was something else - especially the last 3 miles - felt more like 6...and the sandstorm hurt but that made it feel more of an achievement...well done to the marshals and organisers, I will definately be back! In short: Windy but great, beginner friendly run In full: As a novice runner of 45years old I found this race to be excellent. Beautiful scenery, off road and flat...I clocked a PB which delighted me. It was a very windy day, making the first 4k quite tough but on the turnaround it felt like I had jet heels! Will definitely be running this event again. Date of review: June 23, 2008

In short: A murderous race for a fat 1st timer like me! In full: Hey, Leslie, I hate to disagree with you but I was definitely last on the first race - I was so last that you were probably showered and off home by the time I got in! Needless to say I didn’t take part in the 18 miler!!! I did this race without realising just how hard the hills would be...going up and down - I still have black toenails from the clattering descents and have never done anything so tough in my life! The event though was great, the scenery was truely amazing (on the high points you can look back at where you have been in disbelief) and the finish with the Red Kites, for me was fantastic! I keep seeing those hills in my sleep...Never again! Date of review: August 7, 2007
