In short: pleasantly surprised by this race! In full: After reading all terrible reviews last year, I was in two minds as to if I should enter but I was pleasantly surprised. Good points -nice touch having your bib personalised -no shortage of marshalls! -the best runner support with fellow runners supporting one another during the race -great little boost when running through the town the man calling out runners name out -amazing medal
Cons -the organisers did not measure outro the router as it was only 12.9 as we were meant to go further in the Luton Hoo instead we were turned around at the drinks station -lack of signs to get to the stadium -over crowded registration and lack of toilets Date of review: October 26, 2014
In short: Another great race - never disappoints! In full: This is my 4th year doing Henley and I cannot fault it - good value for money, good location, easy parking and a nice atmosphere.
Quite a few people complained about the limited number of toilets, and I do agree however the instructions do say to arrive at 8.30am which I did, and given it took 15 mins to park, then 10 mins to walk, I was had still time to queue for the toilet, but then it was straight to the race so I guess if you got there any later, they yes you would have struggled to get to the loos.
Marshalls very encouraging throughout, great support - and it remains my PB back in 2010 so I'll be definitely coming back next year! Date of review: October 12, 2014
In short: Certainly not a PB but lovely scenery makes up for the hard hills! In full: 1st time ever doing this run, it was a lot harder than i thought, countless hills but really nice scenery and such good value for money, it would seem like a shame to miss out!
The only draw back is there weren't enough water stations (only 2) and I'm sure the mile markers were out by 1/4 mile but the full route was 10m. Definitely needed the arrows on the route as there were parts of the route, i had no one behind or in front of me so I was hoping that i was on the right route! Date of review: September 21, 2014
In short: Great support around most of the course, loved the town centre start and finish In full: First time I've done this race, took me by surprise so much was on muddy paths/grass but i should have done more research as it's classed as a multi terrain race Loved the start being in the town centre and great for supporters as they can nip down the shops or have a coffee whilst waiting. The only grip i have is there were no portaloos so i ended up using a pub toilet which was ok but i felt bad for the pub. Great little surprise in the goody bag - a insulated lunch bag which is a nice touch! Date of review: May 25, 2014
In short: Very well organised, shame no medal! In full: I really enjoyed this race, first time and I'll be back. Very well organised, lots of parking. Downside is no medal. I've done over 30 races so far and this is the first time I've not had a medal which is really odd Date of review: April 24, 2014
In short: Good race, so many supporters and good marshalling In full: Overall, really good race, it was too hot for my liking but that's nothing to do with the organising. The only thing I'm puzzled with is the course on both on my garmin and endomondo showed 13.2m not 13.1m so even though it's not a big deal, the 100meters costs in terms on of 30 seconds or so, so really adds to your time.
Pros: Very well marshalled So many supporters and great how the course loops down the high street twice so you get double cheers which is great Good value
Cons: Course length wasn't quite 13.1m a bit of congestion at water station 2 - because it was a hot day, everyone was stopping for water and it got really congested, runners bumping into everyone and also waiting to get a cup of water Great finish in the park for friends and family waiting for their runners Date of review: March 16, 2014
In short: such great value for money In full: 2nd time i've done the race, overall it's a good race and very good value for money. Pros - very good value for money - started on time and lots of support from marshalls and locals - good bag and medal at end - no tie on laces chip but one which was on the race number - very nice lady at mile 11 giving out jelly babies to runners - nice touch!
Cons - long queues for toilet - shower facilities weren't great but i guess at least it was available - missing some mile markers (unless i didn't see them) - water station signs weren't there for all water stations so before you knew it you were running into one so you had to quickly veer to the right to be on the right side
In short: Great organised run In full: Pros - really well organised, - marshalls were awesome, stood in the miserable weather cheering runners on. - small enough event so you don't spend ages to cross the start line - plenty of parking - lots of drinking stations (and sponges - but we didn't need these in the hideous weather!) - plenty of loos
Cons - lack of mile markers, unless it was me but I only starting seeing them at mile 5 onwards - T-shirts were being handed out quite far away from the finish line so I think a lot of people would have missed these - Loos were in a soggy field= wet feet and I'd not started the race!
All in all a good race Date of review: April 29, 2012
In short: Great run - but get ready for the hill! In full: I'd heard tons of great things about Henley but the hill was clearly a challenge! But I wasn't too phased when I got there, it was steep but do-able. I did a PB so very pleased.
Get to Henley early enough to get good parking - not enough loos is something I noticed.
Otherwise great race, the 4 little girls at the top of the hill gave me great motivation to start running again after stopping near the top! They were great!
Nice goody bag too and medal. Date of review: October 12, 2010
In short: Not bad run, best thing was the early 9am start In full: Nice little race, great early start which means you have the rest of Sunday to do other things! Minimal queues for anything which was nice and good marshalling throughout. Because it was so early on a Sunday morning, the drawback is not many supporters on route to cheer you on. There was a runner with a dog who tripped over his own dog and nearly fell over - so dangerous. Dogs should not be allowed in the races. Date of review: October 3, 2010
