In short: Great race for everybody
In full: This is a good choice for all kinds of runners from elite to beginners. The course is fast - definite PB potential compared to other 10ks.
Much more support on the route compared to last time I did it (2009) which is fab, seemed to be even better organised overall.
Agree slight concern with the baggage collection area (not particularly secure).
All in all, very good, and great for your spectators too!

In short: Great fun for getting into the spooky spirit for Halloween
In full: The course is flat as a pancake all the way round the lake, just a few teeny hills off the main route. Had to contend with stiff breeze on full length of one side of the lake, the route is two laps so the second run into the wind was pretty tough! Aside from the route, the race was brilliant for getting into spooky mood, loads of runners in fancy dress. Slight jumble at the start with the warm-up but everyone in good mood so it didn't matter. The dark was fun, seeing lots of bobbing headlamps across the water. And along with some Halloween style music blaring from loud speakers near the start/finish, there was an owl screeching somewhere along the route. No PB for me, but pleased with my time of 1hr 3m considering my state of over-dress! will be back next year.

In short: Great for the Marathon Relay Challenge
In full: It's a shame the Marathon Relay Challenge doesn't have a higher profile, because it's a great way to take part in the event and soak up the atmosphere without having to slog the whole distance.
The relay is a team of 5 runners completing the full marathon by running about 5.5 miles each. At £50 entry, that's a tenner each - peanuts. You get to enjoy all the benefits of the day, and the best thing is each team member gets a FULL marathon medal at the finish ;)
Have done the relay 3 yrs running now and run 3 different legs; 3rd leg this year from Castle Boulevard to Holme Pierrepont was really good and quick - overtaking the full and half marathon runners all the way felt fab!:) Have also done the 2nd and the last legs previously, but think 3rd is my favourite - have deliberately been avoiding the 6mile (longest) leg round Holmepierrepont! It always looks so bleak :(
Like I said, the relay isn't very high profile, and even the marshalls don't seem to be aware of it, making you feel a little awkward when running the last leg (of only 4.2 miles) and they're giving you loads of encouragement and saying "nearly there now", when you've really only just set off!
However, I've done the half before, and plan to do it again next year. It'll mean training more, but I could run 13.1 miles just on the strength of the Robin Hood Marathon's spectators support, which is just brilliant.

In short: Windy! And a couple of tough hills - but beautiful.
In full: I like this race for the variation in terrain (grass, tarmac, track, hilly, flat) and friendly atmosphere. Not sure I'll ever get a PB on it though. The festival afterwards is fab, something for everyone, and to keep the friends and family amused while you're running (not much opportunity for cheering points along the course, just at the start and finish). Make sure you're prepared for the steep(ish) grassy slope about 250m up to the finish line!

In short: Friendly and fun
In full: It was a nice course, the sections on the road were mostly traffic coned and really well marshalled - by lovely marshalls! One (bit of a killer) hill right in the middle, but immediately followed by a fab long downhill section. No PB for me, was a bit hot for running today. Wet sponge station was a welcome novelty for me. Overall, really good!

In short: Lovely country lanes run - obliged to share with traffic though
In full: The race is a nice route along slightly undulating country lanes, crossing the A1 and doing a small loop, then crossing back into Long Bennington and doing another small loop then back to the start. The lanes are mostly quiet but traffic was slowly moving up and down with good direction from many marshals. Marshals also provide welcome support!
Tshirt provided at the beginning, snack and drink at the end, two water stops on the way round.
Really enjoyed it! Would definitely do it again.

In short: Beautiful!
In full: I lovely race and a great whole day out. The route was a variety of surfaces with some places you need to be careful with footing, but the scenery and the people are fist class :)

In short: Hoofers Relay worked perfectly
In full: I was the last leg of the 5 person relay (nice to be able to see this part of the course without doing the whole marathon!), my whole team loved it, it worked really well. Managed to work out our running times and get ourselves to each of our starting positions without too much trouble. Great support on the course, spectators and marshals. Can't wait for the next one!

In short: Lovely jog through quiet country lanes
In full: I noticed loads of club runners turning up at the start, and had a sinking feeling that I may well come last! But, it was great. About 150 of us out for a lovely jog round very peaceful and pretty country lanes (not closed but practically no traffic). Well marshalled, friendly, hardly a hill in sight, even the weather held.
Only thing missing was prior knowledge of the route (couldn't find anything online) so my spectators weren't sure where to plonk themselves, but at least they were there at the finish!
Great day for everybody, look forward to next year :)

In short: Great day, great run, great people
In full: Was very pleased we managed to park right near the start and finish. The organisation seemed to be really good, just a little chaotic at the finish, had to fight through the milling crowds for a much needed bottle of water. Overall, loved it as I got a PB!
