In short: Scenic, friendly, challenging but very rewarding In full: First marathon for both me and the misses. Loved every minute of it (apart from the lead up to the start). Hills are long and weather was challenging (just like good old Cumbria really) but just added to the feeling of achievement when you finish. Thanks to all the supporters and marshalls around the route, who must have been freezing, but didn't let it detract from their enthusiasm. We'll be back! Date of review: November 7, 2009

In short: A great friendly race in fantastic suroundings In full: The fantastic views of the Langdales and Howgills just make you smile as they come into view. This is what it's all about. The hills are runnable and the atmosphere excellent. Great weather conditions always help too. The water station was a pleasant and welcome suprise. It would make a good permanant feature. Nice to see the number of people using this as their first try at trail races...keep it up. It just gets better. Date of review: April 2, 2009

In short: Better course - Good atmosphere and excellent organisation In full: Mike - don't beat yourself up just because there are one or two minor complaints. You can always improve on any event and I you already know what to do! You'll never please everybody. The new route is 100% better. The chips allow for a steady safe start without everyone tripping over each other and the city centre section lets everyone sort out an early pace. The undulations make for a nice variation in the course and give your legs a rest (unlike the challenges og the Langdale half). The crowd cheery and marshals/water station assistants were excellent. This event will only go from strength to strength (please keep the course though). Good luck with next year. I'll be there with my wife and anyone else I can pursuade. In short: Tough race with something for everyone - nice and challenging In full: Nice easy start to get you going followed by a gentle climb. The bog was the main problem and made it difficult to keep running. Nice break in the middle looking accross the valley at all the 'ants' going up the other side. Once all the climb was out of the way the views opened up although the speed of descent meant you really needed to concentrate on your feet rather than the views. This was controlled freefall - fantastic. Living round here I know the scenery is phenominal (when there is no cloud cover)but a clear sunny day wouldn't have helped race conditions. You need the water & mud! Thanks to the organisers who did a great job. Can't wait for Coniston and the whole series next year. When you live here it's easy to take the scenery for granted. These events remind you that you have some of the best training terrain in the country - and the weather only adds to the challenge. Date of review: September 2, 2007
