In short: Lovely, lots of fun In full: Loved the countryside (not so much the pavement with random non-runners and their children near the end) but it was undulating to make it interesting without being overly-tiring, PB tricky to achieve with the narrowness of the path at times, but had a great race. And assuming the tube is running next time, a very accessible race for non-car drivers. Regarding the chip timing - no start mat means results are gun time? I was right at the back and my Garmin had me as running quite a bit further than 10K! Date of review: May 2, 2011
In short: Smashing Half - wonderful scenery In full: Injury last month forced me switch from full to half-marathon, which was fine although the three decents made my knee pain flare up quite badly. Although the hard trail surface made for a speedier run, it's not the really off-road muddy trail sort of race I usually run (and love!). Excellent organisation, lovely marshalls, beautiful finish, many thanks to Matlock AC, see you next year :D Date of review: May 23, 2008
In short: wet windy and wonderful! In full: Felt the organisation was very good (didn't want a goodie bag and was staying in Parkend, so can't comment about all aspects), course was a fairly nice trail and wide enough to overtake slower runners. Wasn't anything about it I didn't like, and came away with a great PB over last trail half. Brilliant! Date of review: March 17, 2008
In short: A nice brisk dash around a nice park In full: Only decided to do it this morning but it was worth the train journey up to Milton Keynes. The hill at the end of the laps was in an awkward place if you like sprinting to the end, but as I love hilly runs, and not too fussed about a PB, I really had a great time.
Excellent organisation (although I was a bit concerned about leaving my bag lying around with no security), excellent food for afters and couldn't have wished for better weather conditions. Well a bit warmer, but a fabulous race :) Date of review: December 16, 2007
In short: The most fun had when wet and cold! In full: Had a hilarious time, just enjoyed being with my friends and running (slowly in a soggy suit!) with a beard. Shame the weather put people coming to support, but the support that was there was great. Super organsisation :D Date of review: December 8, 2007
In short: My first - and what a brillant expericence! In full: Joined up after Windsor was cancelled and had been keen to try off-road, and it exceeded all my expectations; magnificent views, some challenging hills (which I loved) and very friendly, relaxed atmosphere (especially when waiting to clamber over a single stile!).
On the downside, it was very difficult to impossible to overtake walkers when going up some hills due to the narrowness of the pathways, but this is a minor point, unless going for a PB. I have no other experience of post-race organisation, but was sufficiently tired and frustrated to give up waiting for my medal (once I'd discovered where they were being handed out) and getting out of the car-park took some time.
