In short: A tough event with a superb atmosphere
In full: My first ultra and definitely not my last. The race organisers and volunteers were the friendliest I've ever encountered giving much needed encouragement at the start, the checkpoints and the finish. Camaraderie between competitors better than anything I've ever experienced.

The course is tough with plenty of mud (but no snow this year). It follows the North Downs Way and you are expected to follow this using the official NDW signs, a detailed route description and a few extra markers. Don't expect any marshals other than at the checkpoints. I took a couple of wrong turns but easily found my way back to the trail. Great selection of food on offer at the checkpoints and much needed encouragement.

I'd like to do this race again having made quite a few first-timer mistakes this time and will definitely be looking at XNRG's other ultra events for my next race.

In short: A well-run race in beautiful scenery
In full: Relatively flat as far as trail marathons go. Lots of helpful marshals and water/food stations en route. A friendly crowd so some good conversations meant the miles just melted away.

The weather was near perfect & set a marathon PB so very happy!

In short: The weather made this one hard
In full: It was cold and wet - not what you expect in May - and all the mud made the going rather hard work (not experienced anything like this in all my training). In good weather the views would have been amazing but for this race it was head-down and get on with it. Didn't find the crowd all that friendly compared to other trail marathons but this could the weather or maybe that I'm a bit quicker these days so with the serious runners.

The volunteers at water stops and the marshals were possibly the best I've ever come across so many thanks to them all for sitting out in grim weather for many hours.

In short: Superb race with glorious weather
In full: Another brilliant Trionium event! The Wife Carrying Race beforehand is great entertainment.

Excellent course with a fair bit of mud after Saturday's rain. Glorious views. Superb marshals.

In short: Superb!
In full: Great route, better than last year. Amazing organisation with friendly marshals and results posted on a board very soon after finishing. Would prefer a little less running next to the A24 but apart from that a superb route.

In short: Beautiful but tough
In full: Great organisation en-route with plenty of water stations and marshals at the road crossings, etc. For me the end was a bit disorganised and somehow I failed to collect a T-shirt; got the bag with the medal though (could be down to tiredness on my part and barely functioning brain).

Perfect weather for a race. Plenty of sun, no wind and fairly cool at around 15C.

In short: Superb race in a beautiful area with some killer hills
In full: Brilliantly organised Trionium event. Tough race with great touches like the cooked breakfast afterwards, entertaining wife-carrying race before and quality medal, t-shirt and paper weight to take home. The only thing putting me off running next year is the price - I'd rather have fewer extras and a cheaper entry.

In short: super friendly, well organized
In full: whew, what a hot day!! Still, it was my first ever marathon and it was a truly memorable experience. Everyone was so friendly and the scenery was just beautiful. I can't think of one complaint!
