2013 Hastings Lions Half-Marathon

In short: Hastings should be proud of this proper half. In full: My first time doing this one, it has the feel of an event which has been going for some time with quite a bit going on at the start finish area.
The first five is hard with a mix short sharp hills and then a long drag, but you benefit from this at nine to ten miles and then it is a flat run along the seafront.
The crowd support was really really good even on what was a bitterly cold day.
A really good run in all, with drinks including hot tea at the finish which was perfect for today's conditions.
Its proper half marathon so please don't change it and start handing out cheap goody bags or neon t shirts at the end by adding 10 quid to the price, the race with its athosphere stands on its own merit.

In short: Half was a lovely challenging low key race In full: The half runs through nice countryside throughout. There is one hefty hill at 3 miles that had a few walking despite it being so early on in the race. After that there were great views and a nice descent.
Not a large field but enough people to try to chase down.
Organisation was smooth, the venue is very good and finish times were available within moments the end. Would recommend

In short: Excellent Race, great place and great support In full: I think this is a great race.
The course was pretty flat with a few fairly gentle undulations when you were headling out into some wonderful coastal scenery and then flat for the sceond half so I'd say fairly fast.
The organisation was very good, loads of well stocked drink stations, a good amount of loos at the start for a big field, well thought out course and gun went off pretty much on time. For next year - any chance of a lift to be fitted to cope with those cruel steps after the finish though.
The support along the course was smashing and Brighton should be proud of itself for that. Date of review: April 15, 2012

In short: A Great Run In full: There is no doubt this is a special race, the atmosphere and support is brilliant.
The organisation is slick, only grumbles would be there should be more loos at the start as you get penned in early and the T-shirts you get are now cheap quality compared to what they used to be.
That said you do it for the run not the T-shirt and the run is one you have to do. Date of review: September 22, 2011

In short: Great race by the sea In full: A fairly lumpy first half and pretty much flat second with a little sting in the tail at 25 miles.
It is pretty much by the sea all the way, so nice views and since it is along the promenade there was nice support from the locals sat on their deckchairs along the way.
The organisation was very good, with plenty of drink stations with gels. There were also loads and loads of marshalls handing out jelly babies, who were to the last really supportive and encouraging - a big thank you to all of them. Date of review: September 4, 2011

In short: Excellent race, tough hills, well organised In full: A really well organised race with plenty of drinks stations and loads of friendly supportive marshalls out & about.
The run went out into some really lovely countryside, there were some tough hills (particularly a monster at 10/11 miles) and at times some strong headwinds to contend with. I really enjoyed it, with early start being a bonus. Well done to the organisers. Date of review: July 24, 2011

In short: Friendly, well organised run in nice open countryside In full: This run has very slick organisation and there was a really friendly and supportive atmosphere at the bustling start/finish area.
The course is pretty much flat in open country side, maybe a bit more up hill in the last half. The heat was a bit of a challenge but all in all certainly fun & pb potential. Date of review: July 10, 2011

In short: Really Hard but Really Good! In full: The organisation of this race was spot on from start to finish and you really do get a lot for your money.
The scenery and terrain change continuously and there are some really hard ups & downs to add to the fun.
PS, Thanks to all the marshals, and whoever made the carrot cake from the fine selection offered at the end, should be proud!

In short: Fun race but bit of a let down at the end In full: The organisation at the start and all the marshall & supporters out and about were great.
As others have said; a drink at the end and a clear finish line somewhere in the middle of the field and not at the gate would have avoided the rather drab end to what otherwise was a spot on course.

In short: Scorching Again! In full: This is a really nice run with PB potential but the race keeps getting blessed with glorious sunshine - one year it has to rain! The fete that the race is part of is great to take the family along to and makes a good day out. Date of review: June 26, 2010
