In short: VERY POOR COMPARED TO PREVIOUS RACES. FAR INFERIOR TO BRIGHTON MARATHON
In full: Typical good atmosphere at the start but like all the others in the area where I was we unable to see where the warm-up lady was operating from! The course was fine as were the fantastic volunteers who gave out drinks. As usual there were quite a few locals to cheer on all the runners who came in all shapes, ages and sizes. I thought the mile markers were adequate and located in fairly good positions. But and a big BUT was the very poor finish. I have always collected a useful cotton T shirt at the end of this race and actualluy needed one this year as I did chill down rapidly with the wind. Thanks to the chap dishing out the foil wraps. The goodie bag was a complete waste of time. Sorry to say this will probably be my last Beacon Half and in February 2013 I'll be looking to run a training half Marathon at another venue.

In short: Was better last year
In full: Nothing really bad or good this year. I think that it would be better to have bottles of water rather than plastic cups at the water stations. The worst was at the finish where both water and food arrangements were totally inadequate. Runners need bottles of water and bananas. We had to queue up to fill platic cups! Never had that in all the 50+ races I have done. Please please get this sorted. Otherwise OK.

In short: GREAT CROWDS BUT PRE-RACE ROAD CLOSURES.........
In full: As with 2010 the crowds were fantastic. Thank you to everyone who shouted out 'COME ON GEOFFERS'. Also a big thanks to all the people handing out drinks at the watering stations and also a huge thanks to all the private householders and members of the public who handed out Jellybabies and other goodies to keep us going.

On the only negative matter the early and over-extensive road closures and restrictions really messed a lot of runners about as it made it impossible to cross over from the Hove side of Brighton to reach the east side at Kemptown. This made life nearly impossible and the restrictions must be rearranged to allow a lot more time for the runners to RV with their teams and fellow runners etc. In a nutshell this side of things was very poorly thought out.

A great second Brighton Marathon, thank you all.

In short: BEST RACE YET - THANKS
In full: Start was delayed due to badly parked car. That was the only bad thing of the day. The start area was well organised with ample toilets and good commentary. The 'walk through' gents toilets were very good and saved alot of time. A big thanks to all thoses who came out to cheer us on, wonderful. The water/drink stations were well managed, thank yoiu to all the people who helped. The ending was equally good. The only slightly disheartening part of the run was the slog out to the power station but this was livened up by the very loud DJ in the docks. I understand the olderst runner was 81, wel done. Some of the 'get ups' were good especially MR GONAD running to raise funds for testicular cancer research I think.

In short: Excellent LDWA event. Nice atmosphere and welcome hot meal at finish.
In full: It rained and snowed during the event but that didn't seem to bother the runners and riders. As with all LDWA events the route discription was very good. There were only a couple of places where one could become confused. All in all an excellent event. Good on the jelly babies at the checkpoints!

In short: A nice little race. 'Goody bag' very poor.
In full: My best Hogs Back to date. Knocked 6 minutes off last year.

Being able to leave your bags at the start and collecting them at the finish is excellent. Thanks to all involved. However at the last two Hogs Back's I completed we received a small medal. This year we it was a plastic bag containing some advertising paperwork and a coffee mug. Personally I would prefer the medal but I am sure others will not mind. I'm still up for 2010.

In short: Very friendly,
In full: Excellent atmosphere. The checkpoints were excellent with really good drinks and high calorie food available. The chocolate sarnies at checkpoint 2 were great, thanks. I also liked the extra effort put in by the organisers with the provision of a hot plate of pasta, fruit salad and a cup of soup (all optional). I would have preferred a medal to a certificate, that was a bit of a let down but ho hum. Thanks again.

In short: Very friendly, well sign posted.
In full: The start was abit crowded and very slow. However the whole event was well organised and the atmosphere excellent. I was surprised and delighted to find two watering holes along the route. The farm yard smells were something else, took my mind right off the pain! Thanks to all those who helped out. The Cranleigh 21 was alot harder so be warned.

In short: Excellent well organised local race.
In full: This was a well organised race with a wide range of runners both by age and ability.

The choice of finishing at 15 or completing a second loop is a good idea.

Local residents were very supportive and the course was very well marshalled. Drinks stops were also efficient although I much prefer a bottle to a plastic cup. However as this is a local race one can not complain. All in all I really enjoyed the day and take my hat off to the elite runners who sprinted past us on the first 6 mile loop. Thanks for a great day out.
